chapter fourteen

Bob clicked his drumsticks together, waiting for Man At Large, a local DJ, to introduce them. Scott let his guitar hang off his shoulder while he made sure his hair looked ok. Dave pulled out a pocket mirror and revealed his teeth largely to make sure there wasn't any food caught in them. Clint rubbed his eyes. He was tired.

"THE MOFFATTS!!" The four heard Man At Large yell. They each hurried up on stage and were greeted by large screams. They had their ear plugs in, so it wasn't that bad.

Scott smiled at the audience as his brothers took their places. He loved being screamed at by girls. After awhile they wouldn't stop, so he spoke up and started the concert the way he did at every show.

He leaned close to the microphone and yelled. "WHAT'S UP BILLERICAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"

The fans went nuts and Bob clicked his drumsticks together counting off. "One, two, three, four!" They went into "Raining In My Mind" and all the loyal fans sang along. Some were getting on chairs and dancing.

Bob noticed a girl with light brown hair that was very pretty. She noticed he was watching her and she waved. Bob smiled. He loved it when pretty girls waved at him. He nodded at her, hoping she understood that he couldn't interrupt the song to wave. It was apparent she did.

Scott sang. "Everything is shaded black and white. Whatever happened to the colors? They've been washed away by the rain inside my life..." As he sang, he recognized a girl with light brown hair dancing on a chair, smiling at Bob. He didn't know where he knew her from, but he recognized her.

Later, during "Written All Over My Heart," Bob was singing when he noticed a security guard making the girl and her friend leave the seats they had been in. "Oh, what's left of me...is for you to see...ah-ah!" His brother belted out. Bob wasn't paying attention to the song, but the girl instead.

When they were finished playing, the four guys quickly left the stage and went to a nearby table where girls were already lining up.

Scott searched for the girl he had seen, not knowing Bob was looking for the same girl.

When the 98° crew started setting up, Sheila came over to the guys. "We have to go. Come on." She said and the four followed her.

Scott quickly glanced back at the next people in line and saw her. Scott looked at his brothers, hurrying backstage and back at the girl. She was holding an "I Love Scott" sign.

Da*n! She wants me! Perfect! Scott thought. Grabbing her by the arm, he pulled her, yelling something to her friend, backstage with him.

When they got back to the bus, the girl was walking on her own, but quickly looking back every so often. Clint, Bob, Dave, Sheila and Frank climbed on the bus, but Scott brought the girl in the front of the bus, where light was given off from one of the headlights being on.

The girl looked at Scott in shock. Scott smiled at her and pushed a strand of hair out of her beautiful face after both of them sat down indian-style in the grass. The girl shifted and put her legs out in front of her, then pulling them close to her chest. She had dropped the "I Love Scott" sign on the way to the bus and no longer had it.

Scott looked at the girl sitting in front of him and decided he owed her an explanation. "I'm Scott." He said, trying to be himself and not just a "Moffatt."

She nodded, telling Scott she knew very well who he was. "I...I..." She stuttered. Then all of a sudden she relaxed. "I'm Kellyn."

She had a familiar voice too, Scott noticed. "You're beautiful." He said. She blushed. Scott had no idea what she was thinking, but wanted desperately to know.
