chapter fifteen

Lauren yelled as she watched her best friend being pulled by the one guy she would do anything for. "KELLLLL!" She screamed. Kel yelled back, but there was nothing she could do to get away from the grip that was taking her backstage.

When Kel disappeared, Lauren kicked the ground. She was so mad, she pushed through the crowd of girls and headed back to the place the girls had been screaming at earlier in the day to see if she could see Kel. She saw a single light coming from the front of the bus, because it was dark now, but no Kel or Moffatts. She started crying.

"How could she do that to me?" Lauren said outloud.

Lauren wiped her eyes and sat down right where she was. She stared at the ground for about five minutes until she noticed somebody was watching her. She looked up through watery eyes at LS.

LS sat down and hugged Lauren. "What's wrong, Lauren?" LS asked.

Lauren wiped her eyes again and looked at LS. "You won't believe me if I tell you." Lauren said, as she barely believed it herself.

"Yeah I will, Lauren. Tell me, please." LS comforted.

Lauren raised her eyebrows. "Scott...he took Kel backstage. I mean..." She stuttered. "He just took her. Just like that! And she went! She knows I like Scott!" Lauren teared up again.

LS couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Are you sure?" LS thought maybe Kel was being mean and Lauren was making this all up.

Lauren looked angrily at LS. "Yes, I'm sure! How could I not be? Don't make this harder than it is, LS!" Lauren said.

LS still looked doubtfully. "Okay, Lauren. What do you say we walk around a little?" LS offered. Lauren nodded and the girls walked out of the concert area and stopped by a lemonade stand thing. "Want one?" LS offered.

Lauren nodded. After they got their lemonades, they sat in the glow of a street lamp. "So..." LS started. "Tell me exactly what happened."

When Kel realized she couldn't go back to Lauren, and didn't want to right away, she managed to walk on her own next to someone she had only dreamed about. She watched, dazed, as the triplets and the Moffatt parents got on the bus. Scott led Kel around to the front of the bus into the glow of a single headlight and sat her down. She sat indian-style, but then put her legs bent in front of her and pulled them close to her chest. She was staring at Scott like he was a dream and she was about to wake up any minute. She noticed she was no longer carrying the sign, but didn't remember dropping. Then he spoke, in that same Canadian accent she had heard working the drive-thru at Taco Bell.

"I'm Scott." Scott said. Kel tensed up, still not believing where she was.

Figuring he wanted her to speak, she did. "I...I...I..." She started as she stuttered. Then she untensed. She told herself this was just an average guy wanting to know her name. "I'm Kellyn." She said and looked into his shining bright eyes.

There was a pause. Kel looked at Scott the same way he was looking at her. She looked at him for a long time. He finally spoke. "You're beautiful."

Kel didn't hear him. Her thoughts were screaming in her head. He's so gorgeous. I want him to like me. She screamed in her head. She didn't know that he did. Before he had just been "Scott Moffatt," now he was so much more.
