LS put in her new TLC Fan Mail CD and put it on #5, "No Scrubs," the song the girls had just been singing on the way to LS's house.
After LS gave Lauren a tour of her house, they had went to her room.
As the sound of TLC filled the room, Lauren laid back on LS's bed. She was beginning to forgive the guys, but not Kel. She was convinced Kel had done it on purpose, when the truth of the matter was Kel really had no choice.
LS saw her new friend's closed eyes and stopped the CD. "Ok. What's wrong now? You still bumming over Kel?" Lauren nodded. "Lauren, I think you're making a big deal out of this. I mean, you left her alone at the humongus fairgrounds, I think you're even by now!" LS said.
Lauren opened her eyes and sat up. "I hope she's wandering around aimlessly after being beaten up by all four guys making her run the gauntlet or something..." Lauren said, torturing Kel in her thoughts.
LS got upset. "Lauren, she's your friend. And besides," LS said with a little laugh. "They banned the gauntlet like a million years ago."
Lauren smiled. "Well...I hope she's having a terrible time."
"Ah! Ha ha! I win! I win!" Kel smiled and jumped up from her seat, fluttering the cards in Dave, Bob, Clint and Scott's faces. They were playing poker.
Each of the guys examined every player's cards and confirmed that Kel was the winner.
Clint yawned and stood up. "I'm gonna turn in. Later guys. See ya Kel." Clint said and went into the bunk area. Dave stood up as Bob did the same.
"Me too." Dave and Bob said in one voice. Kel smiled.
"'Kay." Kel waited until Dave and Bob disappeared behind the curtain to the bunk area before looking at Scott again.
"I won." She said cutely. Scott stood up and went around the table they had set up and pulled Kel up. (She had sat down) He got close to her and looked deep into her eyes. "You did not!" He laughed. She dropped her cards and shook loose of Scott's grip. She ran around the table as best she could in the small space. Scott followed her, tripping over everything.
Scott caught her and wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close to him. "Now I win!" She said and pressed his lips to hers. She kissed him for a moment and smiled, resulting in him kissing her teeth.
Kel laughed and pulled back, holding Scott with her arms wrapped around him. "Hey you!" She smiled again.
"Yes, dear?" Scott said, raising his eyebrows. Kel grinned.
"That's what I like to hear! 'Yes dear!'" Kel laughed.
"That rhymed." Scott said stupidly. Kel let out a giggle.
"Let's go outside. What do you say?" Scott offered. He knew the answer, but figured he might as well ask.
"Maybe. What's outside?" Kel flirted.
"Be quiet, you!" Scott said and released the embrace, then took her hand. They passed through the bunk area just in time to see Bob, outfitted in only boxers, trying to climb up to his top bunk.
Kel stared at Bob's bottom half as he struggled to get over the edge of his bunk. Scott tugged on Kel's hand.
Scott smiled. "That's not for your eyes." He said and Kel looked at him and smiled. They hurried off the bus, letting the triplets sleep.
Scott led Kel to the front of the bus where the single headlight was stil shining. He sat down and pulled her down too.
"You're beautiful, Kel." Scott said. He leaned towards Kel and closed his eyes. His lips brushed gently across hers, and she put her left hand on his right arm, pulling him closer to her.
Interrupting the moment, Frank stepped off the bus and watched the two. "Scott."
Scott snapped his head toward where his dad was standing. Frank used his index finger to signal to Scott "come here."
"Be right back." Scott whispered and stood up, joining his dad.
Once out of earshot of Kel, Frank spoke up. "Don't kiss her. We're leaving tomorrow night. You can't just build a relationship like this and leave her tomorrow." Frank explained.
Scott needed Kel. He knew it. "Dad, I'm sixteen. You can't expect me to stay away from girls forever. Kel's exactly what I want." Scott paused.
Frank didn't say anything for awhile. He understood. "I met your mom when I was sixteen." Frank said. "I know what you're going through, Scott."
Scott looked up at his dad and shook his head. "No, you don't, Dad. You don't know. Almost every night I get up there, half way strip to thousands of screaming girls, and resist temptation, because I understand it comes with the territory of stardom. But I have to have someone. I can't help that I like her." Scott looked desperately into his father's eyes.
Frank put his hands on his hips and sighed. "Scott..." He said, then paused. "You have to tell her we're leaving tomorrow. Then I want you back on the bus and into bed. Sheila's going to set up a tent outside and sleep in sleeping bags out here with Kellyn." Frank went around Scott and back onto the bus.
Scott's stomach was in knots. He walked back to where Kel was sitting, picking at her nailpolish. Scott held out his left hand to her, helping her up off the ground. He held her hands with each of his and looked at the ground, then at her.
"Kel..." He started. He didn't want to say the words but knew he had to. "I'm leaving tomorrow. For Boston." Scott said, remembering the next tour destination. "I'm in a music group that tours, Kel." He didn't have to tell her. She knew the time would come eventually. Sheila will be out here in a minute with a tent and sleeping bags. I'd let you sleep in my bunk, but my dad won't let you, I don't even have to ask. I know he won't let you." Kel nodded while Scott talked.
"Well, Scott. It was great while it lasted." Kel said and went around to the backside of the bus. Scott ached inside.
He had no choice though. Sheila appeared down the steps with a tent bag and two sleeping bags, holding them by the strings.
"Goodnight, Scott." Sheila said as she passed him.
Scott didn't look at her. "'Night." He said.
When Kel heard Sheila's voice, she came back around to where she had just been talking to Scott. Kel looked at both sleeping bags.
"Sheila?" Kel said almost whispering.
"Yes, Kellyn?"
"Do you mind if I sleep out here alone? I need some private time." Kel asked.
Sheila hesitated. "I was your age once. I understand. I guess that will be okay. If anything happens, Frank and I are just inside, ok? I'm gonna send him out here to set this thing up and then I'm turning in." Sheila said. She dropped the sleeping bags. Kel examined the tent bag.
"We have this one. I can do it. Thanks." Kel said.
Sheila looked worried. "You're sure?" She asked.
Kel nodded. "Yeah."
"Okay. Goodnight, Kellyn." Sheila hugged Kel like a mother would to a daughter then disappeared on to the bus.
