chapter twenty-nine

Scott looked at Clint as Clint paused the game to look at Scott. "What am I supposed to do?" Scott asked.

Clint shrugged. "One didn't work out. Don't worry about it. Just find another one. We're having a show tonight as soon as we get to Boston." Clint said.

Scott looked out the window that had dark green blinds open over it. "That's the thing though. I liked Kel. A lot." Scott said.

"You got lucky. Try again. There's lots of girls." Clint paused. "Besides, you only got a few minutes of kissing...I hardly call that a make-out session." Clint laughed to himself. Scott sighed. That wasn't his point.

"It's not just about that anymore." Scott said. He couldn't believe he said that.

"Sure." Clint laughed to himself. Scott got upset. Clint was obviously the player type--exactly what Scott didn't want to be like.

Just as their game started, Scott set down his controller. "I think I'm gonna go talk to Bob and Dave. Later Clint." Scott said and disappeared around the curtain into the bunk area.

Dave and Bob greeted their brother as he climbed up to Bob's bunk. Bob was on Scott's and Dave was on his own.

Dave spoke up. "Scott...I'm sorry about things not working out with Kel." He said. Dave watched Scott. Bob stood up and hoisted himself up onto Clint's bunk so he could watch Scott too.

"Yeah well. It happens." Scott said. He wasn't sincere though. Bob didn't say anything for awhile. He wasn't sorry Kel had dumped Scott. If the guys ever got a chance to get back to Billerica, he would make sure he found Kel and asked her out, even if she said no. He wanted to see her again. So did Scott.

Bob looked directly at his solemn brother. "I think you should let it go." Bob suggested. He knew he was taking a risk talking to his brother like that.

Scott's head shot up and he looked back at his younger brother. "What the h*ll Bob!?" Scott snapped.

"I mean, you're not going to see her again. She was a one-night thing." Bob said calmly.

Scott got mad, but not at Bob. "I can't believe the b*tch dumped me." Scott said and dug his nails into his hand. "I'm Scott f*cking Moffatt!" Scott said, letting his ego take over.

Dave laughed. "No duh. Wow, you're really special." Dave said sarcastically.

"Shut up, Dickhead." Scott ordered. "I should take the car once we get to Boston and drive back to Billerica and slap that girl. I hate girls like her who think they're all that enough to just dump the lead singer who is extremely hot of a hot rock band!" Scott said in one breath.

Dave laughed again. "Don't get a big head about yourself or anything, Scott." Dave said laughing.

Bob didn't like hearing Scott bash the girl he liked. "Maybe it wasn't her fault..." Bob suggested.

Scott stared in awe at Bob. "What the heck, 'not her fault'??" Scott demanded. "Of course it was her fault! She's the one who dumped me!"

Bob shrugged slightly. "All I'm saying is don't be mad at her. It was all her friend's fault. That one girl that told her 'me or him' and made her decide." Bob said. Scott listened to what his brother was saying and nodded.

"Yeah. Yeah, you're right, Duke. Why didn't I think of that? I'll kick her a*s!" Scott said with a smile on his face. "Poor Kellyn, it wasn't her fault." Bob smiled slightly. He was glad Scott wasn't mad at Kel anymore.

Just then, the bus turned sharply and then came to a hault. The guys stayed put and waited for something to happen. They heard a car pull up next to them and someone get out. A few moments later, Sheila appeared in the bunk area. By this time, Clint was sitting on Scott's bunk, talking to Dave about mineral water.

"Alright, guys! Sound check in five mintues! We're late, so hussle!" Sheila said and disappeared again. The guys looked at each other but didn't move.

Finally, Dave stood up and walked towards the front of the bus. Scott slid off of Bob's bed and followed Dave as Bob slid off Clint's bed and followed Scott. Clint got up lazily and looked at his watch. Sheila was right. They were scheduled to do the sound check in approximately seven minutes. He laggingly followed his three brothers and looked at the venue they would be playing at later that night. He saw the tour bus of 98° and remembered him and his brothers would be opening for them.

Frank came out and put a hand on Clint's shoulder as Clint walked slowly behind his brothers who were way in front of him, almost into the building. "Let's go, Clinton. No time to waste!" Frank said and hurried back to the suburban he had just gotten out of.

Scott, Bob, and Dave had entered the building but Scott came back out to fetch Clint. "Hey, let's go CT. We can't do "Misery" without the bass. Let's go let's go." Scott said and slapped Clint's chest. Clint looked at the long expanse of building in front of him. He didn't really want to play that night, and neither did his brothers. They had been doing non-stop shows for the past two months. They were ready to take a break.
