Kellyn put the Moffatts CD in her CD player and flopped down on her bed. Lauren was sitting at Kel's brass vanity trying on a new lip gloss she had bought.
The two had already heard "Until You Loved Me" in the car, but that was all Mrs. Archer had allowed, so Kel turned it to number two. As soon as the music started, both Kel and Lauren knew this was their type of music. Not bubble-gum *N Sync-ish and not hard Manson/Korn-ish music.
"This is extremely cool music." Lauren said shaking her head in disbelief. "I mean, come on. They're cute and they can sing." Kel was reading the CD booklet.
"They play their own instruments." Kel said, surprised. Lauren's face drooped.
"So does Hanson. Uh-oh. These guys probably have like one good song--like Hanson--and the rest probably blow." Lauren said and stood up. She sat down to look at the CD booklet next to Kel.
"It says here," Kel said as she read. "That Scott--the cute one--wrote most of "Love," #8." Kel didn't need to read it twice. She slid off her bed and quickly pressed the forward button until a guitar solo filled the room. It was Scott playing his guitar.
"The first time I saw you you were walking down the beach at night..." Scott's sweet voice sounded throughout against the guitar and the harmonies of his brothers. It was instantly Kel's favorite song.
Kel sat back on her bed and took the CD booklet away from Lauren, who wasn't done looking at it. "Is this not the prettiest song you've ever heard?" Kel gushed.
"It's great." Lauren said, not completely sure of The Moffatts yet. "What about...Dave? Is that his name? Yeah, anyway, did he write any?"
"They collaborate." Kel noticed. "Love" got over and soon "I'll Be There For You" came on. It was upbeat and Lauren started doing her weird dance.
"Please, Lauren. Stop you're making me sick." Kel giggled. Lauren put her hands on her hips. "Fine." She smiled too.
"Who sings this one?" Lauren asked when she noticed it wasn't Scott.
Kel looked through the booklet but couldn't find the answer. "Probably that sissy, Dave." Kel giggled.
"Very funny. I like this guy's voice." Lauren said in all honesty.
Kel smiled and thought. "I wonder what they're doing right now." She said.
Scott examined the cards on the table. "No you didn't, I did! Look--right there. See!"
Dave looked again at the cards laying in front of him. "Yeah, I see. I win. You lose, Scott."
Bob walked past just in time to see the two bickering. He looked at each side of the table and at the playing cards. "Dave wins." Bob said and continued on his way, taking a bite out of an apple he had in his hand.
"What's that, pansy ---, you siding with Big Dick here?" Scott asked.
Bob stopped in his tracks. He turned. "You know Scott, for all I care, you can kiss my pansy --- and I could care less." Bob looked at Dave. "He needs a girl."
"I win." Dave said calmly.
