"Goodnight! Thanks for coming! Bye!" The Moffatts yelled as they went offstage. Juliet and Ashley sat down and relaxed from jumping up and down and screaming. Julie was now a die-hard fan. She had enjoyed every song the guys had played and wondered why anybody had come to see 98° when they could see the Moffatts.
The manager came out on the stage as all the girls took their seats to settle down from the adrenaline rush of the concert.
"Wow, that was...interesting! Thank you guys!" The manager said. Then he continued. "We have an hour or so left before the scheduled end of the concert so the Moffatts are going to be having an autograph line forming right out into the lobby area."
Without letting the manager finish, the entire Boston Centre erupted into screams and all the packed together to get in line quickly. Julie and Ashley didn't have to be told twice. They quickly gathered their stuff and also went towards the door.
It was about seven minutes before the girls even got through the door. A few yards away at the opposite end of the lobby, though, Julie and Ashley could see the Moffatts taking their seats and a pretty blond lady setting up merchandise.
Julie could hardly contain herself. Ashley noticed her friend's giddyness and put her hand on Julie's shoulder. "My gosh, girl! Calm down!"
Julie and Ashley giggled and impatiently waited their turn.
Julie could not keep from biting her nails, a terrible nervous habit she could not break, no matter how hard she tried.
Ashley did that "waiting-rolling-up-on-balls-of-feet" deal as the girls slowly inched forward in the line.
After forty-five minutes, the girls were about fifteen people away from the guys. Julie could see them perfectly and wanted to run up and tell them how great a show they had done. She knew she had to wait her turn, but it was biting at her.
Another ten minutes passed and the two giddy girls arrived at the merchandise table.
Having done housework the past week, Julie had some extra cash on her. She looked down at the merchandise table and at all of the old CDs that looked like little kids.
"These aren't the Moffatts, are they?" Julie asked embarrassed to the blond lady.
The lady, Sheila, understood. "Yeah, when they were just nine, ten, and eleven."
Julie raised her eyebrows and looked down the long table at the four extremely hot guys she had just seen perform. They were even better up close.
"Uh, I...I guess...I'll...take the...that one..." Julie stuttered, not being able to take her eyes off the main singer and guitar player.
Sheila smiled and took Julie's money, handing her The Moffatts, a self-titled CD from 1995. Julie also purchased a glossy 8X10 picture to have the guys sign.
Julie looked at Ashley and Ashley was calm as she handed Sheila five dollars and took a glossy 8X10.
Then, when a fat brunette was out of her way, Julie made her way in front of Dave, the keyboard player.
Julie stared. She didn't mean to, really, but it happened all the same.
"Hi!" Dave smiled as he signed Julie's picture. He had a black Sharpie and signed with unusually good penmanship.
Julie cocked her head slightly to the right and stared. "I...hey...uh hi!" The muscles in Julie's neck were tense and it was as if she had no control.
"Did you like the concert?" Dave asked, making a pleasant conversation with the new fan. He could tell she was a new fan, otherwise she would be comfortable around him.
"Oh, yeah. It was...cool." Julie said half-heartedly. She really did mean it though. "Um...I like your hair!" Julie said, making small talk.
Dave grinned. "Thank you! I appreciate comments like that." Julie nodded and stepped to her left, positioning herself in front of Clint.
Oh My Gosh. Julie thought. But for some reason, she untensed. She knew why. This guy looked just like a guy named Colin in her choir class.
Clint smiled but remained silent. He continued to watch her as Julie made her way down to Bob.
Bob took the picture Clint had just signed directly from Clint and scribbled "Bob" in unlegible letters above his head on the white background.
Bob looked up. "Hey." He said cooly.
Julie smiled. "Hi." She replied.
"How long did it take you to get here?" Bob asked, handing her picture back to her.
"Oh, not too long. Just a few minutes." Julie said and put off moving in front of Scott. She didn't want to freeze again.
"Well thanks for coming." Bob said and watched her as she moved now in front of Scott---the cute one.
Julie didn't tense or freeze up though. She remained calm and looked into the bright blue eyes that were looking into hers.
Julie smiled. "Hi!" She said, taking the first step.
Scott smiled and took the picture out of Julie's hands. Julie froze. Was he supposed to do that? She stared at the picture. Scott stopped with his hand and the picture in midair. "Do you want me to sign this?" Scott asked and smiled charmingly. Julie giggled a little and realized what a dope she was being.
"Yeah."
"Ok, cool." Scott said, signed and handed her her picture back.
All this while, Julie had been ignoring Ashley, who was doing great and talking to each one of the guys. When Julie arrived at the end of the line, she waited for Ashley, who was just finishing up with Scott.
Ashley shook Scott's hand [making Julie a tad bit jealous] and looked at her friend.
"Well? How'd it go?" Ashley said as the two girls walked around the back of the autograph line to the three sets of double doors leading out to what the girls thought was the parking lot where they were supposed to meet Ashley's mom.
Julie grinned and looked down at the picture in her hands and the CD. The girls silently walked out the doors and talked on the way out.
Then, Julie and Ashley looked at where they were. It wasn't the parking lot.
