chapter forty-seven

Ashley sat with a questioned look. "Okay, I don't think I heard you right." But Ashley wasn't relieved when he answered.

"Relax, I'm just kidding." Clint said.

"Oh." Ashley said. She wondered if Clint had heard the disappointment in her voice. He didn't appear to.

"You know what...I'm really tired." Clint said and tucked his lower half into his sleeping bag. He leaned over and patted Ashley's sleeping bag, signalling for her to get in hers.

Before she knew it, her sleeping bag was almost on top of Clint's it was so close. Ashley gazed into Clint's eyes.

Clint looked back and lifted a piece of hair out of Ashley's eyes. They both propped themselves up on their elbows. "Let's talk." Clint suggested, shedding the idea of going to sleep.

Ashley giggled. "Okay. What do you want to talk about?" Ashley asked.

"Hmmm..." Clint started. "Tacos."

Ashley giggled. "Tacos?!"

Clint shrugged. "You think of something."

"Your brothers. Tell me about 'the Moffatts: the untold stories!" Ashley smiled.

Clint had a look of thought on his face for about ten seconds and smiled. "You want to hear Moffatt stories do you?"

Ashley nodded. Clint smiled. "I'll tell you one! Then its nighty night." Clint said and got comfortable.

"Ok we were at this one hotel in...New York. There was this one restaurant we called the "Funeral Parlor" because it only opened at 6 pm. until 10 pm. So we go in there and its like this "black tie" restaurant right. So we go in and there's all these waiters dressed up all fancy and stuff. So we go in are seated. Then we notice that these one guys...there only job is to clean crumbs off of tables when you're eating. They get paid to do that! So anyway, we get our food and we each get a roll. Naturally, Dave, Scott, Sheila and my dad all eat theres but me and Bob are sitting across from each other and we just grin and know what each other is thinking, right. Okay so we have our rolls and this guy in a tuxedo who cleans crumbs for his job comes by and I couldn't help it. I broke my roll into little enough pieces for the waiter to question whether he should wipe them off with his little duster tool thingy. And then, he finally DOES come by and clean up half of my broken roll. Right so then he's just about to walk away and I look at Bob and so does the waiter and Bob starts breaking his in little pieces. Only about a quarter of his roll. Then I did it again with more of my roll. And we had that guy hopping back and forth. And this guy is trying to act real cool and everything about it..." Clint paused and smiled to himself. "It doesn't even sound that funny but it WAS!" Ashley giggled.

"You're so cute!" Ashley said. Clint shook his head. "Whatever you say, Ash." Clint reached up and flicked the light off.

"Goodnight, Princess." Clint said, beginning a nickname that would eventually stick.
