Kel looked at her mom in awe. Her dad had walked out on Kel and her mom when Kel was only six; eight years prior. The only times Kel had talked to him after that was when he called to say he was getting remarried and he needed her mom to sign divorce papers. Very willing, Mrs. Archer did, but since that day, about four years before, Kel hadn't talked to him, recieved a birthday card, or anything.
"Wh....wha....WHAT?!?" Kel questioned loudly.
Mrs. Archer nodded. She looked at the counter and then at Kel. "He got divorced and wants to move back in." She said calmly. Kel observed that her mother was taking this better than she was.
"No!! He can't! Wh...? How??? When did you talk to him?!?" Kel had a million things running through her mind at that moment.
"Well, Kellyn. I figured I'd let you decide. He could sleep in the basement on the pull out bed down there, and eat out." Mrs. Archer started, then continued. "He called yesterday; from a Hotel in Boston. He wants to see you...us...as soon as possible. He sounded very sincere, Kellyn."
"I don't care! Why didn't he call before? I've had eight birthdays, eight Christmases, fifty thousand problems, and he wasn't here for them. I don't want him here or anywhere by me! I'm going to school!" Kel insisted and went to grab her backpack.
Kel's mom stood firmly by the counter. "You don't have a choice, Kellyn." Mrs. Archer said. Kel turned around and gave a questioning look to her mom. Mrs. Archer continued, "You're not going to school today. We're going to Boston to see your father. Don't judge him at first. He's your father, Kellyn. Get your things, we're spending the night there."
Kel wanted to cry. She couldn't believe her mom was doing this to her. All she wanted to do was run out of the house and keep going until she reached Boston; but not because of her father. It's where Scott was, and she needed him right now to hold her and tell her everything would be alright.
Instead, Kel did as her mom told her and retreated to her room to pack.
Once she did, her and her mom headed to Boston, after her mom called the school and told them a family emergency had ocurred and Kel would be absent for a few days.
