chapter fifty-five

Ashley watched as her best friend came storming out of the bus. She could tell Julie was mad, and she had heard yelling coming from inside the bus. Clint and Ashley watched Julie jog away. Suddenly, Julie turned around and looked at Ashley.

"Are you coming?" Julie said harshly.

"Where? What are you doing? Where's Scott?" Ashley asked in confusion. She was holding Clint's hand and Julie could tell the two were happier than she was.

"Scott Moffatt is a jerk and I'm not sticking around to see him any longer. Are you coming with me? I'm calling my mom from a payphone and having her come and pick me up. Are you coming?!" Julie said all in one breath.

Ashley was surprised. She thought Julie and Scott were getting along just great; she found out she was wrong. Looking quickly from Clint to Julie, Ashley didn't know what to do. She had found the guy of her dreams and she didn't want to leave him, but at the same time her best friend needed her. She knew she had only a few moments to decide, which was hardly enough.

"Julie, I think..." Ashley looked at Clint. His eyes sparkled and she couldn't leave him. He was everything she wanted and everything she had expected him to be; hardly like any other guy. Ashley was certain he wasn't like other guys. At the same time, Julie had been her best friend since forever, and she knew that friends last longer than simple boyfriends.

"Clint..." Ashley said, changing direction.

Julie interrupted. "I'm leaving, Ashley. Are you coming with me?"

Ashley couldn't believe what she was going to say. "Clint, you have my phone number. Call me, okay?" Ashley kissed Clint quickly, but Clint didn't want it so quick. He put his free hand around the curve of the back of her neck and pulled her close.

Whispering in her ear, he said, "I will. I'm going to see you again...soon. Don't forget me. I'll be thinking about you." He pulled back and looked in her eyes. "You're great, Ash. I'll talk to you soon." He said, and let her go.

Ashley walked quickly away from Clint, looking back with every few steps. Soon she had caught up to Julie and the two ran to a close McDonalds.

Once they were inside the phone area of the McDonalds, Ashley got an angry look on her face.

Staring hard at Julie, Ashley questioned her friend. "Wanna tell me what the he-- that was about?!" Ashley asked.

Julie shook her head. "I'm not up to talking about it. Let's get something to eat."

Ashley got furious. "I JUST LEFT ONE OF THE SWEETEST, NICEST, HOTTEST GUYS EVER AND YOU DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT?! I'm calling MY mom, you find your own ride! I'll call you when I feel like talking to you again. Or, you can call me and explain why you're putting me through this MISERY! And NO that was NOT a pun!"
