chapter sixty

Lauren walked into her first hour expecting to see Kel sitting there, ready to start the second day of school. She couldn't believe her eyes when the bell rang and Kel hadn't come in. It was only the second day of school, why wasn't she there? She wasn't sick, Lauren was sure about that.

She's probably having a great time with the Moffatts somewhere. Lauren thought. She was still holding a grudge. She quickly retrieved a pen from her backpack and wrote on her hand call kel.

As soon as her mom pulled up, Ashley hopped in and told her mom to go. She didn't.

"What about Juliet?" Ashley's mom asked.

"She's getting her own ride home. Just go."

Ashley's mom didn't believe Ashley by the way she said that. "I'm going in to talk to her. Stay here." She instructed. Ashley sat and recalled the night's events in her mind.

Mrs. Layleigh walked into the lobby of the McDonalds where Julie was standing. "Julie, honey?"

Julie was standing on the verge of tears. "She doesn't understand, Mrs. Layleigh. She doesn't. She doesn't know what he's like and its all a front. He puts on a front and its totally false."

Ashley's mom walked over to Julie and put her arm around her as Julie started crying lightly. "I'm sorry, Julie. Talk to Ashley and explain it to her. Come on, let's go home." Mrs. Layleigh had no idea what Julie was talking about but figured it had something to do with the Moffatts so she decided to let Ashley and Julie figure it out themselves.

When Julie got in the car she looked at Ashley and Ashley looked back. She hated seeing her best friend in tears but she couldn't forget what had just happened. "Ashley..." Julie started, calming her tears.

"Ready to explain?" Ashley said.

Julie nodded. Calmly, trying not to get worked up, Julie explained what happened. Ashley just nodded like she already knew. "I'm sorry I was so mean about, Juliet." Ashley said after Julie finished her story.

"Don't worry about it. It's not your fault."
