Last Goodbye

As I sat there in the waiting room I began to think about what happened in the past two hours.  Everything went so fast, I didn't have time to think about what had happened.
Nick and I were supposed to just go see a movie.  A harmless little movie.  If I knew what was going to happen, I wouldn't have gone.  I would never had left my house with him.  Then maybe, just maybe, he would be ok.
The movie theater is just 5 minutes away from my house so we decided to walk.
"Come on let's take a short cut."  he said leading me down a dark ally.
"Nick I don't think that's such a good idea."  I protested.
"Oh come on nothing is going to happen."  Oh how wrong he was.
"Yo look fellas."  said this tall guy said coming out of the shadows.  "A white boy on our turf."
"Yeah what should we do?"  asked one of the other guys.  I wasn't sure how many their were.
"I don't know but I like the girl."  he said circling around me.  I was getting a little scared at that point.
"Hey don't get any ideas."  Nick said.
"Hey this boy's got a mouth on him."  the tall guy said.
"I just..."
"You just what fool?"  he interrupted.  "You're on our terf now.  You do what we tell you to do!"
"Give us you’re money and you and the girl can go.  Maybe."  said another one of the guys.
I looked and Nick scared.  One of the guys pulled out a gun.
"So what's it gonna be?"
Nick pulled out his wallet and tossed to the guy with the gun.  He took me by the arm and started to slowly walk away hoping that they would let us go.  The tall guy quickly grabbed my arm and pulled me away.  I let out a soft cry.  I don't think I have ever been
so scared.  All the things that they could have done to me.
"Hey let her go!"  Nick yelled and punched the guy right in the nose.  That was a big mistake.  The guy with the gun shot Nick.  I don't know how many times he was hit.  It all happened so fast.  All of the guys then ran off into the dark streets, leaving us alone.
Now I'm here.  Waiting in the waiting room.  I don't remember anything after him getting shot.  I was so worried about him.  I didn't call anyone.  I don't think I would be able to talk at all.  Then something weird happened.  Nick came walking into the room.  He
looked very pail but he had a little smile on his face.
"Hey let's go."  he said.
"Um are you ok?"  I asked.  "You look a little pale."
"Oh yeah I'm fine."
"Nick you got shot how can you be out so fast?"
"That doesn’t matter now does it.  I'm fine!"  he assured me.  "Come on let's go."

*The Next Day*

Nick and I spent every minute together that whole day.  He pretty much wouldn't let me out of his site.  Something was very strange about him.  He was Nick and all but he just didn’t seem to be himself.  He was just so pale and when he didn't think I was looking he
had this really sad look on his face.  We went and played basketball and we even went to
universal studios and had a lot of fun. That night at my house before he left he gave me a little black box.
"What is this"”  I asked.
"Just open it."  he said with a smile.
I opened the box and inside there was a ring.  I wasn’t sure what it meant though.
"Uhh Nick?" I asked.
"This is just to show you how much I love you."  he said.  "There is something engraved
in it."
I took the ring out and read what it said:
"Love you Always."
"I have to get going now."  he said sadly.  He gave me a long kiss and hugged me tight.
He was beginning to scare me.  "Remember I love you."  he said.
"I love you too."  I replied.  He smiled and left.  I closed the door and sat down in a chair
in the living room.  I put the ring on and looked at it.
~He had been acting so strange lately.~  I thought.  ~Why is that?~
Someone knocked on the door and I jumped up to get it.  It was AJ.  He was crying. Now that was the first time I had ever seen him cry.
"Oh my god AJ what's wrong?"  I asked as he walked inside.
"Haven't you heard?"  he asked shocked.
"No.."
"Nick was shot last night.  He didn't make it."
