CURRENT LINE-UP:
Andrew - vocals & guitar

LEEK have been around since 1994 starting off with Andrew on vocals & guitar, Alex on guitar, Brendan Ryall on bass and Brendan Harvey on drums. In 1996 LEEK won the "Battle of The Punk Rock Bands" which paid for their first recording called "It was just an Idea!" That album, though not a favourite among the LEEK crew nowadays sold pretty well. A year later Alex left the band, as well as their drummer Brendan who was replaced by Pieter, who was thrown into the deep end and told to learn 8 songs in two weeks as LEEK had a date booked to record the new album. Pieter and LEEK pulled it off and the end result was "Punks Golfing Again" which sold even better than their first release. LEEK soon starting recieving a lot of airplay on both local and international radio as well as appearing in local and international publications. 1998 and it was Brendan who left the band to persue his career in photography and skateboarding. He was soon replaced by Pieter's long-time friend Jaco who had the difficult task of trying to play the comlpicated riffs the same way Brendan did. Jaco did not dissapoint and has now taken over the bassing tasks. So...a new album was in need and so sprung "Thirty Four Bee". Five punk rocking songs on CD. Andrew then decided it was time for a long vacation and headed off to Canada, USA & England but soon returned and started LEEK going again. It was a breath of fresh air starting at the ever so popular "Mad Circle" show in JHB. It started off with a bang and hasn't stopped yet. Year 200 and we're all still alive and two new members join the family...Mpho on trumpet and William on trombone. So...yet again another album was in need and so brought forth "Kicking Back The Years" which is a collection of more or less everything LEEK ever recorded as well as a lot of new tracks with the horns and live, unreleased material. And that's history as they say... |
