Comments to the Lazer

  • It is sad that the radio station that had so much to do with creating the great local music scene in Lawrence has lost all foresight and has jumped into an already too crowded top 40 market. Wasn't your station once top 40 back in the late 80's and early 90's. How did that go for you? Bad enough that you changed from that format. I would like to see the parties that are upset about this change come together to create a new alternative rock station. Long live live local music!!!!!
  • This whole lazer thing totally blows beyond belief
  • I really liked your old format and listened to your station everyday. Now I do not listen to it at all....
  • Creative thinking disappears when diversity is eliminated. Why be the same? Not all people are the same. The original format allowed our region the opportunity to discover newer, edgy music heard on the coasts. I will miss Spacin' Jason. Quit the change.
  • If I wanted to listen to this crap, I'd listen to 93.3,102.1,95.7, etc...
  • Why did you do that? Now Topeka, Lawerence and Kansas City are flooded with that format, and undoubtedly the "new kid" will lose the battle. I'd fire whoever suggested this change. They need to go back to Burger Hut and keep flippin...they're in the wrong business
  • I once made it a point to support your advertisers. Now, I intend to write them letters stating i will never support their businesses as long as they support yours.
  • I listened to the Lazer in college and ever since I have graduated. I looked to them to enrich me with upcoming and inovative music. Unfortunatly now I must turn off the Lazer in disappointment. Please bring the true essence of the Lazer back!
  • They SUCK!!!
  • Nothing Ruined My Day More Than Turning on the lazer and Hearing the Back Door Boys( and proceeded to tear the stereo out of my car and throw it out the window)
  • I can't believe you fucking caved!
  • this new top 40 thing sucks. i almost started crying when i heard Madonna and LFO on the lazer.
  • Change it back!!!
  • I hate 95.7 and 93.3, don't be like them
  • please change back!!
  • Why?
  • WHY THE HELL DID YOU CHANGE THE FORMAT!!! YOU WENT FROM HAVING THE ONLY STATION IN TOWN THAT PLAYED GOOD ALTERNATIVE/LOCAL/ETC.. MUSIC TO BEING JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER STATIONS. YEA WE REALLY NEEDED ANOTHER GOD DAMN BEE BOP STATION. THANKS FOR RUINING A GOOD THING.
  • WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  • Now how many top 40 stations will the Kansas City area have? WAY TOO FREAKIN' MANY!!! Please change it back to what it used to be, that's all I ask!!!! Madonna is killing me! If I want to listen to LFO, I'll turn it 93.3, but when I want rock, I USED TO LISTEN TO THE L A Z E R !!!
  • New format sucks. I won't be listening anymore
  • Bad move.
  • I cannot believe you made this format change. It is absolutely disgusting that we can't have 1 decent radio station in this listening area that does not have top 40 on heavy rotation. This sucks.
  • Please, please, please change back.......we don't need anymore Top 40 stations.......how can you change after ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE voted you a top 10 station in the entire USA!!!!!!! I WILL NOT LISTEN TO YOUR STATION IF YOU KEEP YOUR NEW FORMAT!
  • If I wanted to listen to top 40, I have 3 other stations. The Lazer was THE ONLY station I have listened to since discovering it 7 years ago. Bring it back!
  • I've already contacted several advertisers in the KC area about my displeasure with the format change and have written letters to the editors of the Topeka, Lawrence and KC papers to urge other "former" Lazer listeners to do the same.
  • THis is truly sad. What a HUGE mistake. The Lazer ruled the airwaves as the only station to play alternative music. I was returning home tonight as a matter of fact and am sad to hear this news. What genius decided to make this move? You may be the single most idiotic radio person on earth.
  • I thought I had the wrong station when I turned on the Lazer, but I found out that you changed the format. Looks like I'm going back to listening to CDs!
  • KC was in a sad state of affairs BEFORE you dropped out of the picture. I've always complained when I went home to KC about how bad the radio there is. Now is absolutely hopeless. Thank god I don't live in KC anymore.
  • i didn't like Q104 the first time. KEEP THE LOCAL MUSIC SHOW FOREVER.
  • Top 40 SUCKS!
  • I'm still in shock. I'm listening to Jason's farewell show Friday and then turning it off for good. This is the lamest mainstream clone programming I've ever heard.
  • Further proof that anyone in Marketing should go kill themselves immediately. Who on earth made the brilliant demographic decision that what the local market really needed was one more totally generic sterilized station playing the same totally generic sterilized corporate swill that can only be found on 6 or 8 other stations around the dial. It would be redundant to say someone needs to lose their job over this because dismal rating will take care of that within 6 months anyway.
  • The new Lazer is just like all of the rest of teenie-bop BS. What happened to the Korn, Marilyn Manson, ect...... There are already enough "New Wave" radio stations. The Lazer was the only station worth listening to, now we have 150 radio stations and not one is worth a crap!!!
  • I am a 31-year old, married, professional woman with a great salary. I am the demographic you were trying to reach, but you have lost me UNLESS you return to the previous format. I'll take my money away from your advertisers and spend it on CDs to play in my car - oh yeah, CDs from local stores, not the national I-net retailer you have allowed to advertise.
  • i listened when it was in reach, but more importantly told other people who could get it in to listen because it was the only station that played decent music around. No more. Now the station is nothing more than a part of a fad for teeny boppers.
  • Wow, you suck now.
  • This whole teeny bopper movement with the Back Door Boys, Britney Spears, and all the others, will soon die out. Does anybody remember New Kids on the Block? They are a joke now. Alternative music is constantly evolving and changing, keeping up with the times. So long Lazer.
  • I used to listen when I lived in Kansas. The Laser is where I first heard the Pixies. And, the only place in KC to do so. What a shame!
  • Hello Sell outs! Whats up with this?? I mean why would you want to essentially put yourselves out of business in 6-8months? Why play the same music you can hear on 4 radio stations, since you are the newest "Top 40" station you are obviously going to be the first to fold, you won't last with the other more established stations around town. Stick with what you know. Can you honestly tell me the dj's ENJOY the music they are now forced to play? Ask Spacin' Jason. This is ridiculous, in less then a year the KC are loses ALL of its modern rock/alternative stations. Its a sad sad time for the modern rock listeners in KC
  • Please consider reverting back to the old format. It was unique and refreshing to have a station with a different style that was truly its own.
  • A sad, sad, sad day. The only bigger bone headed move would have been to change over to a counrty & western format, but I'm sure that marketing suggestion is right around the corner. So long Lazer.
  • The Lazer absolutely ruled. The only station in Kansas that actually plays what people buy.
  • The new format sucks, you were the last real "alternative" station on the dial I am very dissapointed and refuse to listen to your station.
  • Hearing Ricky Martin on the lazer made my ears bleed. The lazer's new format was a danger to my health.
  • Backstreet Boys.....Give me a break....
  • Now that you have alienated you fan base it's nothing but 98.9 for me!!!
  • for the love of christ jesus and all things holy, take your hand off of our throat
  • I was genuinely crushed when returning from being out of town, I heard Ricky Martin on the station. Thought my radio was broken. It wasn't. I'd like to meet the brainshild behind this decision. You were the only game in town. This station is not a leader, but nothing more than a follower. Disappointing, really.
  • Way to go, Lazer! Major kudos for going Top 40 and giving people "what they want." NOT! In other words, way to turn a good station into a pile of raw turds. You suck.
  • The new music sucks
  • New format SUCKS, I'll never listen unless you return the good music!
  • hey. way to go! what is the point of even changing the station? now that everything sounds the same? talk about ruining a good thing. congratulations, bozo.
  • it's really sad. i would have thought that the "real" 105.9 would have never sold out
  • More Tool.
  • Please change back!!!
  • Why??
  • The new format sucks! You've destroyed something cool!
  • The Change sucks big time. I am very devastated and disapointed even though i noticed many clues like when they started playing Tal Bachman and Their webpage shutdown and i heard many rumors they were changing. I still can't believe my radio is gone forever.
  • Remember your promo, "When the rest will fall we will still be standing", anyways something like that, um eating your words now, just what I want to hear, another Brittney Spears song and a station selling out!!!! You've left a huge demo. to be filled? Wonder who will? This is very sad, aren't we better than Britney and the Backstreet Boys?? Come On SAVE US!!
  • I am saddened by the Corperate BS that changed my life.
  • Today I could stand it no longer, so I took 105.9 off my #1 memory setting on the car radio.
  • This stinks every bit as much as the KY102 change. Speaking of which, How many times has 102 FM changed it's format since then? Kansas City doesn't want another top 40 station. And, another top 40 station is going to go the way of 102 FM.
  • There used to be one good station on the dial at 105.9. Now there are 3 types of stations across the dial....and they all SUCK!!!! I have no use for my radio anymore
  • This is totally devastating I'm no longer tuning into the Lazer thank god for cds
  • we want you back
  • Top 40? Hell, if you're going to switch formats, you might as well come up with something *original*. Utter bullshit
  • you were the only station around that consistantly had awesome tunes.... i hate to say it, but you sold out... what a shame
  • I don't have any Lazer gear to return......but I HATE the new format
  • I'll only listen to the local show!!! Please don't can that too!!
  • you shoul of known better
  • How much thought went into this decision? Not much apparently. Bad move, folks.
  • If I had Lazer gear to return, I most certainly would - starting the car this morning and having 105.9 blast out Hanson nearly killed me. Enough top 40 already, the other stations already have that more than adequately covered... bring back the old Lazer that EVERYONE knows and loves.
  • why ??????????
  • I always turned to the Lazer for the latest in alternative/modern rock music. Now what do I listen to? The Lazer had its own style, thats what made it so great. Now its like everything else.
  • C'mon, you all know better than to do that!
  • Another example of the ill effects of communications companies being controlled by a select few individuals...
  • i moved to kc in '92, before the lazer started reaching kc's shores and at that time, everyone i knew passed around mixs tapes and listened to cd collection because no station in our area played anything we wanted to hear. the lazer was a welcome addition to my dial (although lately it's been a little too top 40 for my tastes). any chance you can bump the reach of 90.7?
  • Why do you want to be a clone of all the other radio stations in town? The Lazer was cool because it was different. AND it was the only one in town that actually played music in the morning.
  • No more purely alternative radio stations, please change back
  • Please change it back!
  • The hemogenization of Kansas City area radio is finally complete! Thanks a bunch!
  • Why did you have to change? I loved listening to you guys! Now I have no radio station to listen to, and I certainly won't be listening to you, now! Why did you do it??
  • You were the last saving grace. And now you succumbed to mainstream pressure. You suck.
  • I was in radio sales for 6 years. The Lazer was different. The music was different. It wasn't programmed by some corporate exec who believes that if it works in our 10 other markets, it will work here. Good luck to the sales staff. Trying to differentiate yourselves from the 10 other sound-a-likes will be next to impossible. Good bye 105.9, you lost another listener.
  • The lazer went from having a unique and distinguishable format to being just another station playing crap. Some national radio chain coughed up a lot of dough, didn't they? You guys suck.
  • Many stations came and gone the KC area, but there was ALWAYS the Lazer that I could tune in and hear the Newest trends in music.NOW YOU SUCK.
  • Unless 105.9 changes back to its old format, I will not listen to your station. In addition I'm going to contact your advertisers that I will not patronize their business and tell them why.
  • Your so-called format change is no different than every other radio station. You are over saturated the market with the Top 40 music. I like listening to up and coming bands. Why change something that wasn't broken.
  • Your music sucks I turn it on yesterday and heard a song from the movie top gun. What the hell is up with that. If I wanted to hear that crap I would listen to sunny 102.5
  • Very bad move. You have just lost every dedicated listener you had. We'll all go elsewhere. The Lazer WAS an institution in this area - and you screwed it up. I know many people, in your target audience, who will not patronize your advertisers now. And WE are where the money is! This is not the Ozarks. Don't treat us like Jeff City.
  • All I wanted was for you to get rid of Spacin Jason, not the whole format!
  • I heard so many new songs and looked to the Lazer for different music. I'm really disappointed that they "sold out" to the competition.
  • Be a leader not a follower
  • This new station is aweful!!! At least get rid of the Lazer name. Is nothing sacred???
  • now Kansas REALLY sucks!
  • I don't even have you guys on my preset anymore since you changed formats. What are you guys thinking?
  • Now that you've changed, I don't listen to the radio anymore.
  • We don't need ANOTHER Top 40 station
  • After listening to the Lazer for 20 years, I have re-programmed my car radio. We don't need more Mariah Carey. We need cutting-edge, cool stuff. It's not to late to undo this mistake.
  • This sucks. Welcome to the world of shit music
  • Baby come back. This is a huge mistake and you know it. The money will flow with your return. As a Top 40 station you are dead to me.
  • You ruined my week
  • Corporate America is killing our hearts and souls
  • Let's rename it the "Gayzer" for playing that happy crap!
  • How many pop stations do you think the Kansas City area needs? I've been reduced to books on tape for my drive in to work!
  • It's sad to see that you guys have turned into a bunch of pussies. You guys suck!!! You were the best and only modern rock station and you went top 40? Are you kidding me? Sell outs!!!
  • Reminds me of the Movie Airheads, I wish Rolling Stone would come back and do another article. #1 radio station that chumped out
  • Well, my friend and I did a little research of our own. Here are your friendly neighborhood sponsors to BOYCOTT: Outhouse Adult Bar, Big Words.com, Corona, Amigos, Cork and Barrel(sorry C & B), Pizza Shuttle(Sorry P.S.), Dale Williams Automotive(Sorry Dale), Excel Personnel Services(there are plenty others to choose from), National Guard(sorry Country). A full list of advertisers will be forwarded to former listeners on this list. Power to the People.
  • Your not even playing top 40 that much, every time i turn you on, i hear crappy music from the late 80's or early 90's--that's not even retro. I HATE THE LAZER NOW. IT SUCKS! You may laugh, but i programed it out of the radio station buttons in my car. Whoever the new owners may be(dumb asses), you made a big mistake. Are you related to any of the Kansas School Board Members? Your mindstate is very similar. Hhmm.
  • Hitch your wagon to the Backstreet Boys' star - you can't miss, can you?
  • Thank god you have finally seen the light. It is very difficult to find a backstuge boys song while I am revving my engine in the quick shop parking lot. Are you going to get a morning team made up of one stuped guy, a guy that is really perverted, and a hot women who makes fun of them on the morning show? That would be so original! Make sure that you switch to an all dance format every weekend after 10, because I just can't find it on my dial when I really want it. Thanks, like, totally so much!
  • Lawrence has had a tradition of embracing diversity, which is slowly fading away. The Lazer's format change is a result of the "cookie cutter people" winning. Please change it back, and start the diversity tradition again
  • Don't ignore this large populous of radio listeners (and CONSUMERS)
  • You were my favorite station...I can listen to this new stuff at my mom's house. Please change back. You're going to lose your whole college crowd in Lawrence and all your sponsors that pay for advertising so that college kids will come and spend there expendable incomes at theirs stores.
  • you used to be my only radio station, now I've boycotted my radio alltogether. The new format, isn't new, it's a copy of 93.3 and 95.7. You took something that was different and turned it into a clone of the annoying pop radio stations kc was already full of. I hope you think seriously about returning to the original and best format
  • Keep the local show going. Someone in KC has to support local music
  • I don't know what everyone is so upset about. I love pop music. Sometimes I like to listen to it while I rub my nipples with Tabasco sauce and talk to them like they are dirty little Mexican fun boys. At other times, I'll coat my rear end in axle grease and play a game of see how long I can sit on the speaker with the bass turned all the way up.
  • This is a sad time in KC when we lose the only radio station that didn't used to play: Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, and all that other music that you can hear repeatedly on 93.3 and 95.7. My roommate and I couldn't believe that the one station that was different didn't have enough support or whatever it takes to stick with their format. It's a huge loss.
  • WHY? WHY? WHY? I only get two radio stations in my car 95.7 and 105.9 now I have the same two radio stations and I keep my radio on 95.7 because what's the difference. Nothing
  • Quit the teeny bopper garbage and put Modern Rock Back
  • Way to go, Lazerheads, you've made yourselves and your work totally irrelevant. Not that I was a big fan of your faux-slacker DJs, but at least they were a little bit different. Tough luck for your listeners. They wanted to be loyal, but you screwed them. Sleep tight.
  • I couldn't believe you would sell out!!!
  • The new station SUCKS BIG ONES!!!
  • I will never listen to the new format as there is already enough POP Crap on the radio as it is.
  • In the past year we lost 102.1 and 107.3...105.9 was the only station left that played GOOD music. The last thing Kansas City needed was a trendy, teenie-bopper station that plays the same 10 songs over and over again. You guys were also one of the few stations that supported local bands. Disappointing...
  • Good luck trying to do the same thing everyone else is doing.
  • I should have known it was too good to be true, the state of Kansas have a great radio station
  • I go to ESU andradio stations are hard to come by down here in Emporia -- this was the only one out of three that I could get in clear enough to even listen to -- the other two were already teeny bopper little dance stations! STOP THIS MADNESS!!! We need rock and alternative and Lazer flashbacks, COME ON GUYS!! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?!
  • What have you done? The Lazer was the only thing that made KC a little bit cool. Now, it is officially and all around cowtown. This is NOT good!!!
  • you all suck
  • you sellouts ruined a good thing
  • Unfortunately I've read what is happening to every radio station across America and it contradicts what i feel radio promotes- free speech and unique opportunities. I don't feel there's much we can do b/c it's the old men with capitol looking to earn that extra dollar. How bout 105.7? I can hear the shame in spacin' Jason's voice as he announces the next song by the Backstreet Boys. Where is the demand for this programming coming from? Hail to Gen X!
  • How long will it take for Zimmer to realize what a mistake (not to mention a poor business decision) it has made by making this change? The only way to convince them to reverse themselves is to show them they are and will continue to lose business and revenue because of this format change. I listened to the Lazer literally every time I was in my or my girlfriend's car, now it has been erased from our radios. I am not convinced at all that this change in format reflects the wishes of the majority of listeners in the Lawrence area, never mind the KC area. I am willing to bet that the so-called survey Zimmer conducted was done during the summer when the student population in Lawrence is minimal, and that the survey was given only to business owners and others outside of the 18-35 age group. I dare Zimmer to prove otherwise, but they haven't given specifics about the survey yet (except the "results") so I don't expect them to do anything. Again, the only way to g! et through to Zimmer is economically, boycott those businesses who advertise on 105.9 and spred the word to everyone else to do the same. This format change has got to be the most asinine and thoughtless decision I have ever seen...on a subtler note, the Lazer is now complete SHIT.
  • The Lazer was unique and "my" radio station. It is not anymore and I will no longer listen to it. I would say that I am sorry, but I am not.
  • I believe that this is a huge mistake and you should rethink the changeover. There is a voice to be heard from we the fans of modern rock, and we are not ashamed to let you know about it. I may listen if you change back to the old format. But don't count on it. Just remember that KC already is full of top 40 stations and you guys will just be another one jumping on the top 40 bandwagon going nowhere. I've voiced my opinion, and hope that you reconsider
  • Please at least keep Future Mass Hysteria and Nocturnal Transmission!!!
  • I hope this is a joke. I guess I'll have to start listening to talk radio now, or maybe the 9 other radio stations that don't suck over the Internet. You guys have ruined my week. Good-bye, Gayzer.
  • As a long time Lazer listener, as well as a broadcast journalism major at KU, I was sad to hear that Lazer management sold out for a more mainstream format. If listeners want mainstream - they have myriad sources in Kansas City. Turn on the awful Mix93 for example. Lawrence's reputation as a mecca for alternative live music will indeed suffer.
  • I think it is very pathetic that one lets this horrible trend in music dictate how a great radio station is going to run in the future. Remember, most people in their 20's and so forth, do not want to listen to the absolute crap music that every station is about. Why would you ever change your uniqueness to do what everyone else is doing. You're supporting a shitty, shallow, and talentless era in music by changing your format. Us people who know and enjoy actual talented and creative music are appalled by your greedy decision. I hope your idea fails you and will push you out of a job in the future! You suck!!
  • We have enough Top 40 stations. And if I get a yen to listen to a top 40 station, you can tell your advertisers that it sure as heck won't be 105.9 The Lazer. Your radio station will be wiped from my programmed channels and unless it delivers something different, I'll never listen to it again.
  • Send those hillbilly new owners back to Missou!!! They don't have a clue what we want here
  • Kansas City already has too many stations that suck! Not we have one more. I listened to the Lazer because it was different and did not play the same old crap every 2 hours. I was outraged when I tuned in the 105.9 and heard Brittney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. For the love of God!
  • Your old format was great. The new format sucks
  • I have listened to the lazer for 7 years and it has been my favorite and really the only radio station I listened to.
  • I have been disappointed in repeat plays for months now, but it was still the best station. Now I would take the lazer off of my preset if I knew how .
  • the new format sucks! i heard jennifer lopez plaid, and proceeded to tune out! that goes against everything college radio is about.
  • I'm so saddened by this whole mess
  • the new format IS AWFUL! you guys suck
  • why do we need another top 40 station?
  • Don't fall victim to teen-bopper madness. Return to the old format.
  • I would return my stuff, but I don't have any. I think this is a great cause.
  • this new lazer sux, you can shove the back-door boys up your ass!!!whoever decided on this change is an idiot.
  • I was waiting for my radio to explode the first time I heard Shania Twain on 105.9. It doesn't make any sense. Being original was the only thing that made the Lazer what it was.
  • you are selling the worst kind of product. You are weak and greedy. You are stealing art. Nobody is going to listen to your shit station anymore.
  • Who was the brain child to decide that Kansas City needs another pop radio station? When I moved to KC, it was so refreshing to find a radio station who actually played decent music and supported local talent. It is incomprehensible that someone would decide that what KC needs is another pop radio station
  • 105.9 just joined the heard of sheep....now it's baaaaad
  • i feel betrayed
  • "I can't live without my Radio" --LL Cool J
  • Here is some research about the Lazer's new parent company. Not necessarily a corporate mogal, however is it one of the fastest-growing broadcast groups in the midwest according to a website of another station that it owns. The Zimmer Radio Group owns and/or operates radio stations in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas including: Clear 99, Solid Rock 96.7, Classic Rock 93.9, KTGR Memories 1580, New Country Z-100, Classic Rock 95.1 Big Dawg, Magic 103, and Cil 101.5. (What? No Modern Rock station?) It appears that this last station is the mold for which the Lazer is about to be cast. FORMAT: Contempory hit radio, also referred to as top40 TARGET DEMO: Adults 18-49, Females 18-34 CROSSSECTION OF MUSIC: Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Green Day, Alanis, Hootie, LaBouche. • If I wanted a "hit music channel" I would listen to Casey Caseum (sp?)
  • The last bastion of music that has a soul is now gone......Your station provided music with passion, music that is alive!!! I now can shut my radio off, because nothing speaks to me anymore.......Au revoir, Lazer.....
  • When I turned on my car radio one morning and heard Will Smith's Wild Wild West, I thought I had the wrong station. Then I remembered that I only listened to the Lazer. Not any more. Now my radio isn't even programmed to 105.9.
  • "Pusher of the button talkin loud ain't sayin nuttin The mack of the format gettin' fat. Aint funny 'cause my neighborhood is flowin' money. Thank God 4 the boulevard. They keep the motor runnin'."
--Public Enemy, "How to kill a Radio Consultant"
  • It sucks ass now
  • One of the few good things in Kansas is gone. Time will prove the grand error made.
  • The new format stinks
  • You are now the same as all of the other stations.
  • Dare to be different
  • Go back to the way you were
  • Can I have your old CDs?
  • I heard the Lazer play the same song at the same time as either 93.3 or 95.7 FOUR TIMES TODAY!!! HELLO!! LIKE I WANT TO HEAR R. KELLY!
  • You were one of the only stations I listened to because you didn't play the same songs over and over and over again. Now, you're just like every other station on the air. YOU SUCK!!!
  • I can't believe that you have joined all the other stations around the country that suck. I recently moved from Lawrence to Atlanta, and the Lazer was one of the best things I had in Lawrence.
  • The new KUDL for Lawrence Sucks
  • We have *plenty* of Top 40 stations in Kansas City but *none* like the previous Lazer....sure miss it.
  • What a disappointment
  • Damn it, Everyone is playing Top 40 crap. Play modern rock!!
  • Why do you think that you have to be like every other station in this area? All the top 40 jazz gets really old and it all sucks. You need to come original like back in the day.
  • If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  • I lived in Larrytown for six years and I find this change appauling. You are all worthless and weak and the Laser use to be one thing I could rely on. What gives?
  • Go back to what you did best!
  • Instead of stepping up to the big show and taking their place as the sole alternative station in the KC market, they dropped back into the minor league to cater to the Lawrence/Topeka hip hop crowd. With this decision Kansas City lost a great station, and the real Lazer was robbed of the opportunity to carve out a niche in the 33rd largest market in the U.S.
  • PLEASE DO NOT BOYCOTT PIZZA SHUTTLE ! THIS FORMAT CHANGE WAS MADE WITHOUT INFORMING ADVERTISERS BY STATION MANAGEMENT NOT PIZZA SHUTTLE. WE TOO ARE LET DOWN. WE WILL CONTACT OUR SALES REP. AND 105.9 MANAGEMENT AND ARE CONTEMPLATING THE FUTURE OF LAZER ADVERTISING. PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE US BY STATION MANAGEMENT DECISIONS. THANK YOU PIZZA SHUTTLE OWNER :-)
  • What a bunch of shit!!!!!
  • You had the best station, the key word being "Had".
  • I am sad by the new teenage music that is on this college radio station. why did you try and fix something that wasn't broken? I will no longer be a lazer listener until the fromat is back to where it was before the top 40 invasion
  • You are now no different than the other radio stations in KC that I chose not to listen to. The old Lazer had a niche in the radio market...you were better than 93.3 and 95.7. Now, you are exactly the same and I don't listen to them, hence, I won't listen to you
  • How do you think that you'll attract more listeners by switching to top 40? You know, there's like 5 or 6 other stations that play that crap. YOur just getting yourself into more competition. But the Lazer was new. It was different. It just was. But now, out of habit, turn it to the Lazer, only to hear the "newest" single by N'sync, which has been on the charts how long? Or who really cares? You know what? TEENY BOPPERS ARE EVIL, AND BY DOING THIS, YOU ONLY ATTRACT MORE. Congrats, anways, you just lost one more listner. But I'm sure your gaining more by doing this. Aren't you?
  • We all have been sold out!
  • What can I say that hasn't already been said? Dumb Dumb Dumb
  • we don't need anymore top 40's radio!!! Bring back alternative music!
  • Bring back the old format. Lawrence will never be the same without it.
  • WHY, WHY, AND, OH YEAH, WHY???????????????
  • I don't have any Lazer gear, but if I did I would return it. I think the change is terrible! Please go back!
  • Damn corporate whores!!!!
  • I'm disappointed to see the format change.
  • I was saddened to see the change in format. Not being orginally from the area it has been practically the only station I have listened to for the past five years. When I would visit my friends back home, the stations there would just be starting to play music I had been listening to for at least two or three months. I enjoyed being the person to introduce them to what was new, some of which they would never hear on their stations. Local bands must surely be upset by the change as well. You used to be able to be assured of knowing a song or two played in a set of a band you've never seen before. Now they have little exposure to the wide audience they used to have. I am sorry to see modern music go away. Please rethink the decision I beleive was poorly made.
  • Why take on Q103. What happened to the strong survive. Remember when 1073the X?
  • 105.9 The Lazer. The only thing you are good for now is KU football and KU basketball. Other than that I would rather listen to country music before I start listening to the backside boys. Thank God I can now pick up KJHK in Kansas City.
  • I've stopped listening entirely
  • Welcome, to the Top 10 Radio Stations that DO SUCK!!!
  • You suck. You'll be back but it's like a cheating girl friend. You'll never be trusted again.
  • Get off of top 40! That format sucks!
  • i like the new lazer First comment I have got like this
  • I never thought the LAZER would sell out...so much for lawrence's great local music scene...
  • Lived here 13 years, sad things are happening to Lawrence
  • It's a shame that such and original station adopted such a common format.
  • The new one sucks!!
  • you guys now suck
  • the new format really really sucks
  • WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? This is an atrocity! Why are you conforming? Why mainstream and play the crap all the other stations play? It's a sad day in radio.
  • i was upset when 107 went to motown and i called and protested and so on but i found another station- the lazer and i was feelin pretty good cause i got to hear my 311 on the radio again. i am really disapointed in the change and shouldn't people listen to the people who are actually listening to the station and not go to what every other station plays already? my faith in kc radio has fallen- i'm glad i have a cd player in my car.
  • Just what the world needs, another lameass radio station playing ridiculous fluff to annoy and repulse us. Apparently the dust hasn't settled on the air waves yet, boys and girls. Granted, KLZR had its share of lame new sounds, but at least it gave local artists a place to be heard and gave listeners some music that didn't make you feel like you were 14 and at the junior high prom.
  • I've noticed a slow decline in the quality of the Lazer for about the past three years. When I moved to Lawrence in 1995, the Lazer absolutely rocked. It was the biggest reason that people around Lawrence and KU didn't even know that KJHK existed. However, as the Lazer has gradually started playing more and more pop music (i.e. Matchbox 20), the quality has gone downhill and the demographics of the listenership have changed. I do not think that modern music is dead, I simply think that the Lazer has not tried hard enough to find out what is really out there. The answer is not that people want more mainstream music. If the listening audience has declined recently, the reason is because over the past 3 years, the Lazer had become too mainstream anyway. Yeah "alternative music" was cool 5 years ago. But, it does not exist now. In order to be progressive, the Lazer should make some effort to find out what music people do want to hear. It's sad to say that ove! r the past three years, the Lazer has already been a top 40 station minus Brittany Spears and the Backstreet Boys. Get rid of Matchbox 20, get rid of Goo-Goo dolls, find some music out there that people really want to hear, and you will have a successful station.
  • change the moniker to LOOZER. Far more appropriate. Thank you.
  • It was the only radio station in the KC area I enjoyed listening to, but now they are just a generic, boring station, they let us down. I'm glad I'm moving to California
  • I want the old format back. It brought new music to the KC and midwest, and now I feel we are loosing out on an entire music genre. I will not listen to the Lazer anymore until they bring back modern rock/alternative. I will listen to 93.3 & 95.7 when I want to hear Top 40. I will no longer support the Lazer or their advertisers
  • Who was the Brainchild behind this wonderful "new" format. Way to go. Now you are just as terrible as 93.3, 95.7 (another sell out), 102.1, 98.1, etc.
  • I loved the morning show with Jason and Mel. I'm glad Jason is not staying on the air to introduce N'Synce and Backstreet Boys!
  • We had the opportunity to discuss this change with one of the advertising representatives. Her explanation was that the people who spend the money at the radio station wanted a more "main stream" format. Thus, their change to the top 40 crap and changing to "serving Lawrence and KC" to "serving Lawrence and Topeka". I am really uncertain how this is going to bring a big boost to their damn sales. They are marketing 12 year for Christ's sake! Do those damn 12 year olds spend a lot of money in Lawrence and Topeka businesses? One word "MISTAKE". I hope they realize their error and return to a decent format.
  • They were the only radio station of its kind-- now, they are like every other radio station in KC. The Laser sold out.
  • Your questionable business decision has caused you to lose another listener. I will also be contacting your current advertisers to let them know my displeasure
  • You were once the only station I had programmed into my radio, I never had a reason to change it. You have now been removed and I'm still searching for something else to replace it with. Does anyone play the music you used to? Thank goodness I have a CDs!
  • The Lazer HAD a great format in that it was the only alternative station in the KC market (more less Lawrence). We already have this goofy music in KC compliments of 102.1 and 93.3 and will never listen to 105.9 again with this format (except for KU games of course
  • Quality over quantity (of money
  • We already have at least 2 stations in the KC area that play top 40. The lazer was unique and now its not.
  • Get a clue you idiots
  • Give us our station back!
  • Sorry Zimmer...... but even my 12 yr old daughter hates the 'new' LAZER!
  • What the hell are you doing? I made the mistake of leaving my car stereo up too loud one night, jumped in the next morning, and was nearly killed by a 100db blast of N'Sync. Don't do that again.
  • Please change your format back. Why did you have to conform to the to be like all the other horrible Top 40 stationsin Kansas city?
  • The Lazer was such a nice change from Mix and the New 95.7 because I get sick of hearing Ricky Martin and the Backstreet Boys all day long, song after song. It's also really sad that now do we not only have no modern rock/alternative stations in this market anymore, but also there is no station left to feature and play the songs of local/up and coming bands in the area. The Lazer was great at doing this!! Yeah, I know the change in formats was due to a new owner and a need for higher ratings and more money- but I would like to see what your ratings will be next quarter! You cannot compete with Mix 93- AND I know that many of the people who loved the Lazer probably won't listen to it now!!
  • I already can listen to this new music you are playing on two other stations. You now have competition, which can't be good. Before you changed your format there was no competion in the area! Just something to think about!!
  • I don't even turn my radio on anymore - there's no point. I'd rather have total silence than what you're playing now.
  • You guys are the hit music channel alright--makes me want to hit Chad Elliot square in the testicles.
  • I remember being so impressed with the station when I first moved to Lawrence in 1994. Over the last two years, the quality music programming had begun a steady decline. With this new change, you're killing a once cutting-edge station. It's clear people will listen elsewhere. I'm excited for KJHK and stations in Kansas City that will readily take the place the LAZER once held.
  • The new format sucks as badly as 93.3 and 95.7. I am finally buying a CD player for the car and am having a second phone line put in for internet radio. I am embracing MP3. It's the only way I'll hear anything different in KC
  • If your looking to increase Ad revenue by going Top 40, you're wrong. The format is already established in KC and Topeka.
  • The main reason I will no longer listen to the Lazer is because I can hear the same songs on three other radio stations. Why exactly did the format change and why would you want to change to become like every other station in KC?? Keep your originality.
  • This new format sucks! I don't know why anyone in their right mind would change what the Lazer had going for it! I'm very disappointed!
  • Kudos for Spacing Jason for refusing to work for the Lamer!
  • What where you guys thinking!!!!!!
  • This will screw up the Lawrence awesome music scene, why do that?
  • I don't have any gear but if I did, I would return it. I don't want to promote another lame station like the lazer now is. Switch back!!!!
  • go back please
  • now in kansas city, the radio waves suck and you said that you will never change when 107.3 left you said you will stay on top
  • You have made a big mistake
  • Before the Lazer was the only station anyone listened to when I first went to KU and now, it is humiliting that they had to sell out and become homogenized. There is no longer any reason to listen to the Lazer specifically as you can find that same music anywhere--it is so common, that I can even hear some of it in Germany
  • It was bad enough that everyone else sold out to this overplayed, bubble-gum bullshit in order to have a successful radio station, but I never thought the Lazer would. At least I have CD's to listen to because the last good radio station is gone now. Thanks a lot!
  • ONE DAY TACO BELL DECIDED TO STOP SELLING TACOS AND START SELLING HAMBURGERS. WHEN THE CUSTOMERS STARTED COMING IN THE NEXT DAY THEY WERE UNHAPPILY SURPRISED THAT THEY HAD NO TACOS, ONLY HAMBURGERS. THE ANGRY CUSTOMERS ASKED THE MANAGER "WHY DID YOU GET RID OF THE TACOS?" THE MANAGEMENT REPLIED, "WELL, WE TOOK THIS SURVEY AND WE FOUND THAT PEOPLE LIKED HAMBURGERS MORE THAN TACOS SO WE DECIDED TO CHANGE OUR FORMAT...UR..UH..MENU TO HAMBURGERS, JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER RESTAURANTS UP AND DOWN THE STREET. SO, THERE WAS NO MORE TACO AS THE TACO BELL, AND WELL, THEY WENT OUTTA BUSINESS...FUCK YOU ZIMMER, YOU STUPID FUCKS.
  • Aaaaaaaa!
  • Please go back to what worked... but thank you for keeping Nocturnal Transmissions on the air! Please reconsider your actions!
  • used to listen to the radio for virtue of the lazer only, now don't listen to the radio
  • Pop sucks!
  • Bring back good music to Lawrence. The Lazer put Lawrence on the radio map in NE KS.
  • My boyfriend is a part-timer for the Lazer, and I used to turn it on to listen to him and be happy. Now, I have to physically force myself to keep the station tuned in until I can hear him, just to support him. I feel bad listening to other stations while
  • corporate bought you out, too?? Sad day.
  • WHY????WHY?????WHY??????????
  • What a disappointment! I can't believe you sold out. Who in the world did you survey, anyway? Nearly everyone I know listened to the Lazer and now thinks it sucks!
  • The new format sucks
  • I was in town a few days last December, and the Lazer rocked my socks off. I was wishing we had a station like that here! THANK GOD WE DON'T! Nobody likes a sellout. Bring back the REAL music. You're killing my friend--her ears start bleeding every time somebody turns your station on now! Get a life.
  • Get a clue...you already had a great market that no one else served..you are a bunch of idiots!
  • you blow think about all the loyal listeners that you gave up for your trite fashion music that is aimed at pre-pubscent females. what about the rest of the world that actually has money to spend they dont we do get with the program
  • Just what this market needs - another teeny-bopper station. Thanks, guys. :P ~ ~ ~
  • I can't believe that The Lazer, a local station who used to have balls, is now on its knees sucking the proverbial dick of popular culture. I didn't always love the music, but I certianly can't stand the N'Sync and BSB "music."
  • Don't be another boring radio station just like the rest because we aren't listening!
  • The lazer was the last bastion of hope for the dying live music scene in lawrence and KC. Now that they have gone "backstreet" they have put (at least in this part of the country) the last nail in coffin for music. When local stations all fall in line to play top 40 who is going to help usher in the next wave of great music? The record companies? Because that's the track we are on now... Prefabricated groups of kids from Disneyworld that look good and will sell. It's not about the music, it's about the money. Period
  • The Lazer was the best station in the area, the only to play alternative music! Now you've joined the gang of loser stations such as Mix 93.3 that play punk ass dance/hip-hop bullshit with a target audience of teeny-bopper spice girl wanna-be's. No body including myself will never tune in again, if I did I have 3 other stations to choose from. You guys are in a college town for Christ's sake, nobody's going to listen(except maybe the little kiddies in the 2 high schools!) YOU GUYS REALLY FUCKED UP!!!!!!!!! ssuch as Mix93.3
  • NPR, am, here I come
  • Don't Suck Like the Rest
  • Sellouts never prosper in the end. You were succesful a reason and you have forgotten that reason. When your numbers hit the toilet and you are bought by another conglomerate who changes the format back you might understand what went wrong.
  • I hate the new format, go back please
  • I can't turn on my radio anymore. Please, please go back to the old format. The top 40 radio stations are taking everywhere, the Lazer was the one and only worthwhile radio station
  • WHY??
  • My only reason for continuing to have the Lazer on my radio buttons is to listed to KU games. Otherwise, I would have changed it as fast as humanly possible!!!
  • This is an outrage! Whose idea was it to change formats? It is sad that there are no good radio stations in the KC area. I have the choice of (ugh!) "classic" rock, top 40, top 40, top 40, top 40, and now, top 40! If I wanted to hear the same lame songs over and over again, I would. I was geeked to hear the Lazer announced as one of the top ten stations by Rolling Stone, and now the owners/management trough that all away just to have a bigger demographic base and pull in more advertiser dollars. I think they don't realize how bad the change is, no one will listen to it and there goes ALL their money. Change back NOW!
  • This was the greatest destruction to Kansas City radio. Now, there is nothing good to listen to. It is actually a factor that may help me move out of town. What could they have been thinking.....
  • I mourn the loss of the Lazer's innovative spirit
  • WHAAAZZZUUUPPP????
  • I expected more from a college town.
  • With the recent change in format of all the other alternative radio stations, it seems to me that you would have had 100% of the listening audience. If you go back to the old format I will start listening again immediately, until that happens, NPR is my station of choice.
  • Is money that impotent , your #s were up 130%as was you arbitron rating. Why?
  • So your market for advertising are 13-14 year old girls? With the music your playing, thats all that will be listening!
  • Lazer now suffers from sameness.
  • I was driving home the other night, flipping through the stations, and TLC 's latest was on three stations, one being my beloved 105.9 the LAZER. I suppose I'll have to solely depend on my CD's....Spacin' Jason we miss you already.
  • There are already three other stations with the identical format as the Lazer's new one. I suppose I will have to stick to only listening to my CD's.
  • Top 40 sucks
  • SELLOUT! If for no other reason, do it to save poor Spacin' Jason.
  • It's a shame. The Lazer was once the natural progression for for many rock jocks coming from KJHK 90.7 (KU affiliated college station for the uninitiated). Bummer.
  • I can't believe that the Lazer plays such crap, lawrence is not a 12-15yr old teenage market.
  • YOU SUCK BIG DONKEY B#@&S!!! Good luck making Rolling Stones Top 10 list this year!
  • an oasis in the dry, parched radio wasteland has dried up...kc radio is 100 proof piss
  • The Lazer was the ALTERNATIVE, now I have none!
  • Sad, sad, pathetic, sad...
  • I do not like the changes that have been made. I can listen to ten other stations and hear the same music. The Lazer was different but not anymore. I do not plan to listen to the station anymore
  • that was the dumbest move they could have made, any listner loyalty that they had, is gone.
  • I will NEVER listen to the LAZER again until this mindless, derivative crap is pulled off the air.
  • They dropped the ball boys.
  • I used to love listening to the Lazer and now I can't even stand to turn it on!
  • It's a sad day when my wife now listens to the station that once made ma happy. The new 105.9 the "Loser" sucks. The only things left are cd's, NPR and am.
  • Have you listened to the last track of the Limp Bizkit CD. Matt P. rants about the lame shit on the radio. I guess you guys thought it was a compliment.
  • You did great things for local music and Jeff Peterson is a God in that regards. However, this new format is quite embarassing and disappointing to say the least. Guess the only decent radio in the KC region is NPR. To the people who ultimately made this change, you suck. Period.
  • Thanks so much, there is nothing better than waking up to Whitney Houston, except maybe a bullet in the head.
  • Change back to the original format and I will be happy to listen agian.
  • You pisshead sellouts suck
