Know the words "Truly Madly Deeply," by Savage Garden
"We were listening to [the Artist Formerly Known as] Prince’s song ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,’ which we really liked," says Savage Garden’s Darren Hayes. "So we tried to pull it apart and figure out why we loved it so much. It was because it was so real. That’s how our song was born.
"I wrote this song around 10 o’clock at night in a café. I was thinking about my wife, and the lyrics just poured out. The phrase ‘truly, madly, deeply’ actually comes from the title of an English film. In it, the woman’s lover has died suddenly, and she’s crying her heart out. It’s the most romantic movie I have ever seen, and I’ve always known I wanted to write a song using that line.
"Daniel Jones and I write all our songs together. I write the melody and lyrics and he write the instrumentals. Whenever I hear one of our songs playing, I get this weird feeling, like my fly is down or something. It’s such a buzz."
