I had a school speech to do, and if you also have a project or speech, this site is great. Let's get on with it. Jim Morisson was a poet. He has many quotes that can be found throughout the net. My favorites are:
~A friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself.
~If my poetry aims to achieve something, it's to deliver people from the limited ways in which the see and feel.
~The only time I really open up is on stage. I feel spiritual up there. Performing gives me a mask, a place to hide myself where I can reveal myself. I see it as more than performing, going on, doing songs, and leaving. I take everything personally, and don't really feel I've done a complete job unless we've gotten everybody in the theatre on common ground.
~ I wouldn't mind dying in a plane crash. It'd be a good way to go. I don't want to die in my sleep, or of old age, or OD... I want to feel what it's like. I want to taste it, hear it, smell it. Death is only going to happen to you once; I don't want to miss it. (This is ironic because he did die of a drug overdose)
~ I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up and gasps "Oh look at that!" Then- whoosh, and I'm gone...and they'll never see anything like it ever again... and they won't be able to forget me- ever.
The Band's members were Jim Morrison (Vocals), Robby Krieger (Guitar and Songwriter), Ray Manzarek (Keyboard and Organ), and John Densmore (Drums). The four members were all very different from eachother and not many people thought, at first, that it would work out.
Jim was very different from anybody on stage. He often got high or drunk before performances. He would jump around on the stage like he was crazy. He would ad-lib in parts of the song where there were no written lyrics. He once exposed himself during a performance in Miami. He was arrested and found guilty of indecent exposure. This led to him being banned from Miami.
The Doors had very many hit songs, including, Light My Fire, Riders On The Storm, Break On Through, Hello I Love You, and People Are Strange.
The Doors had many great albums also. They are: The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting For The Sun, Morrison Hotel, The Soft Parade, L. A. Woman, The Best Of The Doors, Classics, An American Prayer, and Absolutely Live.
Jim Morrison attended Florida State and UCLA to become a film-maker, which is one reason why they also made videos. Some of their videos include Dance On Fire, Live At The Hollywood Bowl, The Soft Parade, and The Doors Collection. Also, recently, Oliver Stone made a full length movie about The Doors, starring Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison.
The Doors careers came to a tragic end, though. Jim Morrison flew away to Paris to think over his life. He died of a drug overdose, and is now burried in "Pere La Chaise" cemetary in Paris.
Many people wonder why The Doors are still so popular after the death of Jim Morrison. Some think that it is because The Doors music sounds so strand and that Jim Morrison pulled crazy stunts. I personally believe that it is because their lyrics have much more meaning that most groups and just that they play good music.
In conclusion, The Doors were a great band, and I think that if Jim had lived longer, The Doors would have made a lot more great music. Check out my links if you need more info.
