LEAD singer, Andrew Firth, dresses like Jarvis Cocker, looks like Jarvis Cocker and moves like Jarvis Cocker. But that is where the Pulp comparisons must end - because his band are BETTER.
And on this showing at the Liverpool Lomax club, The Dandys have the capability to be just as successful as their grand Yorkshire counterparts. The nine or so songs go down a treat and by the chorus of the first song you know your seeing and hearing something special.
This gig came on the eve of The Dandys releasing their super second single 'Dirty Weekend', which if there was any justice in the world, would go crashing into the top ten.
'Dirty Weekend' champions the ever English concept of a mucky two day stopover in the seaside town of Blackpool. If your going to buy the single, get your hands on the limited edition 7" - it's on clear vinyl and there are only 1,000 copies available. When The Dandys take on the world these singles will be worth loads!
The only disappointing thing about this gig was the poor turnout, the Lomax should have been packed. Oh well, it's your loss Liverpool!
* 'Dirty Weekend' is out now on Artificial Records.
