29-03-83, London Hammersmith Palais . Sound Quality: Fair audience, this show was transferred from tape to CDR. Comments: U2's 4th War show in London and the 2nd in the Hammersmith Palais was their final 1st leg War show in the UK before closing it up in Bourges, France. Who ever made this recording did a weird job, for it seems that everytime a song was finished he stopped recording when a song was and started finished and started again when a new song began. It was probably done to conserve tape, my guess is that he brought only one tape along and was afraid to run out. A lot of Bono's speeches may be lost for posterity forever, but then again, the music has been left to us. Two hearts beat as one however suffers from mysterious volumedrops for which I have no explanation and which can be very annoying, but it's only during Two hearts beat as one. Tomorrow is suddenly cut when the band starts to kick in in full force, but this is no accident or running out of tape for the tape also contained the rest of the song. It would seem that the missing part contains a musical breakdown and U2 had to start again halfway the song so the net result is still a complete Tomorrow. This show features a performance of the favorite U2 cover I love to hate, Knocking on Heven's door. Funny enough this song is played with Mike Peters from the Alarm and Stuart Adamson of Big Country. The new breed, as Bono calls them. A pity they weren't the long lasting breed or these bands might still have excisted. ;) |
