I've taken it upon myself to learn as much as I can to operate a modest system at peak efficiency. Scott...Good down to Earth stuff. In my 20's when I had a group, I kept all the various pieces wired together including the stuff the guitar player always broke. Like your bio said about one of your setups, it was one head here, an amp there, cords I made since it was cheaper to make my own and the quality was better. I still have an old TOA MX 106 powered head with stereo record, Remember those? Still works. Wish I'd have known you then to play bass. We did a lot of Doors covers and originals with a keybo rd guy playing the keyboard bass at the same time as the organ. Definately a cool thin Doors sound. Thanks for a great site! I have dj'd for about twenty years; my style and system has evolved to a much simpler -straight forward and satisfying sound. I've found that EQ (top to bottom balance) is 99% of your sound. I have played for very mixed audiences at wedding receptions a relatively high volumes (more on this), but I've learned that controlling the EQ has allowed even the old folks to stay and enjoy it right to the end. The show has to be a continuous crescendo, and when the volume plateau has been reached, slow dancing at lower levels allows everyone to relax and talk before kicking it back in with more high-energy dance music, blending 50's, hard rock and 80s/90s dance. Nobody, young or old, wants it at constant hi-volume. Later-

An excellent site. Congrats. I am in the market for a PA for small pub-sized venues and your site is a revelation. I am rhythm guitarist / apprentice lead guitarist and vocalist in an Athens (Greece)-based bar band. (I'm Irish not Greek though.) I'd like to know what speaker brands you recommend. Celestion seems to feature quite a bit. What about cabinet build - how important is this? Also what about connectors and cables - any thing to watch for here. I am completely non-technical (although our site was easy to follow)and am learning from practically zero. What sort of speaker output should I aim for for small pub-sized venues? Great site! Just recently bought a PA system. I'm doing solo acoustic stuff now. Saw an ad in the Austin Chronicle for a PA. Went and checked it out. The powered mixer is a late 70's/early 80's Neptune? 4 channel, spring reverb, 200W. Nothing fancy outdated, but okay. The speakers are Bullfrogs, 2-way, with 12" woofer and large horn. The cabinets are about 24"H x 18"W x 12"D. Rather heavy, but good shape. It also came with early model Ultimate tripod stands, when they were silver/gray, instead f the more recent black. All of this I paid $200. Think I got a good deal! 2 questions, The speakers only have serial numbers, no model numbers. I called Bullfrog, and they didn't keep records from before they bought the company. I was wondering what the speakers are rated at. Also, each speaker has 2 parallel 1/4 inputs. What's the reason for this, and can I plug into either of them? Also, there are only 2 outputs from the amp/mixer for speakers. Where do I plug in for a monitor? There are sever l inputs and outs for effects. I still think I got a pretty good deal. Thanks, David

She and one other person that helps sometimes are extremely "Un-biased" which is hard to find. No squeals, hums so far and a very clean r ch sound. I am really grateful for the efforts you have made putting this site together, I run a little dance club but it is becoming really popular and I book bands swing jump blues, soul etc and people dance and have a good time. I recognise the need to become more technically aware of PA/ equipment issues so I can better understand band's requirements . I have just purchased an amp ( 400 watts) twin cd deck, mixer. ( all KAM) and I have a couple of ramsa speakers 80 watts RM to help me beacome more aware of DJ side too ( buying the stuff means I have to learn. Hi there! I have some questions about stage monitors. Basically I will be running sound from the stage while I sing with sound tracks or play my guitar and drum machine. My husband is a minister and I sing . . . we go to churches most often, but sometimes we go t prisons too. We just bought a set of "Dawn" speakers (These are the mains). With them I can run about 200 watts per side. I don't have our new amp yet, but were thinking of buying a Fender that can put out 400 watts, total. O.k. Here are my questions: What kind of stage monitors should I get? Are more watts going to deliver better sound quality? We're thinking of spending about $100 per monitor . . . I don't want something dinky, though . . . I'm looking for something g od . . . so that when I'm singing and playing I'll have a "hot" sound in front of me to help me deliver a good performance. What brands should I consider and how many watts minimum should I get? How close to a "Bose" sound can I get for a hundred bucks? (Perhaps I am asking for a lot . . . ) I appreciate what ever you can share. I'm visiting our daughter so I am giving you her internet address. Thanks!
