Broken Valentine

Here is a red rose
Red letter wax
This whole life moves too fast
The party was over before I could buy the dress
Ripping plastic shedding neon suit
Once there was a time when there would be a place where I could wear that suit
Once there was an age 16
A dream of being on the silver screen
Now there's just a Saturday filled with broken valentines

I look back from time to time
(By that I do mean ALL the time)
The day we met
Beautiful laughing psychopath
An empty goblet, dripping nothing
Reminder that she isn't here

To spend the Saturday alone
Drinking empty goblet air
Dancing with my shattered ways
What has happened to my valentine days?
Filled with sour love notes,
BitterSweetHearts,
Palpitating crushed velvet boxes with bites taken from them,
And here is a red rose
Beautifully crippled by time
Brittle and blackened
Dead
But more alive than I am

Here is my hand on a bitter valentines day doing a dance with my fingertips
Speeding up time
Spreading black-red rose bits everywhere
Like little people parachuting to the ground
Some will land in lakes
Others little necks will break
And someone will leave red roses on their graves
A little bit too late.
