BREAKDANCING

One of the essential elements to hip hop music and culture is breakdancing, a dance form that works on special footwork and power moves (spinning and others) . Unfortunatly it is mostly ignored today by the greedy, money concentrated hip hop artists such as Puff Daddy and other rappers who are more at home on MTV. B-boying as it is often known as has its origins in the Bronx, NY. The term itself was created by Kool Herc who was a DJ in the early days of hip hop. B-Boys means "break boys" and are called like that because they dance to the break part of the music (this is how breakbeats have also gotten their name).

Breakdancing still has a strong underground support and is also slowly becoming more popular again with large b-boy events such as UK Fresh and Battle of the Year in Germany. Switzerland also has a good underground breaking scene including crews such as the Basel City Crew, Crazy Force Crew, Gleis X B.Boyz & The Spartanic Rockers.
