It's been a long time coming, but there is some Savage Garden news. It's mostly rumors due to media searching for a new story, but following the APRA awards in May 2003 Daniel made some hopeful statements about Savage Garden reuniting. These statements have since been taken back and there are no plans at the moment. I have posted the articles on the site anyway because I like hopeful news. Anything is possible. So don't dream its over.

Darren is currenly doing some solo work but at the moment he's on break and going to uni and hanging out with Wally, his dog. Lately he's started going back to the studio working on this new album - he hasn't stated anything in stone as to how it will turn out. There have been a few discussions about it, but we won't know until he lets us in on it. His first release so far has been "Spin" and it's a fun album - stand outs include "Like it or not" and "Dirty".

Not everyone has followed Darren willingly on this journey but I wish him all the best because even though at first my embrace of Spin was lukewarm I came to really enjoy it. May be it was because of the B-sides that I changed my mind on how music was going for Darren because although very poppy they had a very enjoyable sound. He even did a duet called "Right dead back on it" with one of his back up singers. On an Olivia Newton John album he sang "Lift me up" with her, a song he wrote.
Oh, and if you can't recognise Darren on the left, that's him - on and the same vocalist from Savage Garden. He may look a bit different and this picture doesn't show what he looks like now because he's changing his style rapidly and one couldn't catch up. But that's how his music is now as well - its hard to know what he'll come up with next.
If you're wondering what Daniel is up to, he's a producer now and owns a record label called Meridien Musik (I may not have spelled that correctly as I'm not sure about
the 'k'). He's brought together Aneiki. The lead singer you may recall was a back up vocalist at the start of Savage Garden.
They have released an album called "Words in Place of Objects" - I haven't heard all of it but I do like the single "Pleased to Meet You" and the B-Side "Sugarlust" (which Daniel co-wrote). He has also been involved on a B-side for Bachelor Girl. If you've read the articles you'll hear he's interested in writing again. I'm interested too - in what he'll come up with.

Another band that I found out about around 1999 is
the Devlins. They're a duo from Ireland consisting of Colin and Peter Devlin (I swear I do also like bands that are not duos). They have released an album just a little while ago called "Consent" (well longer than a while if you live in Ireland). It's beautiful and I am completely enamoured in a song called "Five miles to midnight". When I got to know them it was through an album called "Waiting" my first response to it was luke warm (sound familiar?) but its fantastic! I can't get enough of it and my favourite Devs song is on it - "Reckless". What also caught my attention is that they have a track on the Batman Returns soundtrack called "Crossing the river" that is also stunning. Thanks to this band (and their forum) I've latched on to yet another Irish (U2!) prodigy - Damien Rice. If you have seen him on Letterman, consider yourself blessed.

Now you may wonder if there is anything besides music I like? Not much. Okay lets see, besides parasites (don't ask), oh I know books. Besides things I'm reading now my favourite collection of books is those by Orson Scott Card. I don't like saying favourite because there are "other" collections of books I really love but I'll risk it just for informations sake. The reason why I got into OSC is because of Ender and all the books that relate to that general area. Just read Ender's Game and you'll know what I mean. That's all for now - coming up - Star Wars - a custom obession. Cheers.
