Just can't get enough of that duo from "Down Under"? Here's the real deal on Savage Garden! Hailing from Australia, the home of Silverchair and INXS, Savage Garden are adding to the continent's musical diversity with their synth-pop sounds. And fans all over the world just love them! Their debut single, "I Want You," was one of the biggest songs of the summer and confirmed that Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones, aka Savage Garden, are a group to watch! More than four years ago, instrumentalist Daniel Jones and singer Darren Hayes met when they were both playing in the local Brisbane music scene. When Daniel advertised for a singer and Darren responded, they formed an instant union. "We connected right form teh start," remembers Darren. "We were both so determined, so ambitious that meeting seemed almost like coming home." So the duo set out to make music that explored different genres -- from new wave to electronica. With a slew of demos sent around the world, Savage Garden realised they weren't the only ones interested in their sonic stew. Suddenly, they were signed to Columbia Records and "I Want You" became Australia's top-selling single in 1996. Savage Garden is fliled with delicately powerful songs dealing with love, loss and longing. It's an exciting album skipping from the roughed-up guistars of "Break Me Shake Me" to the tender romantic ballad, "Truly, Madly, Deeply." Their second single "To the MOon & Back" has already gained a lot of steam overseas and now it's at the top of the US charts! The guys are extremely thankful about their success with Savage Garden. "It seems like only yesterday I was sitting there praying for this," says Darren. "We are just holding on for the ride, and so far the ride has been amazing." |
