A Different Kind of Success-Jon's New Story

A Different Kind of Success
Jon Bon Jovi surprises the fans with a new solo album: "Destination Anywhere". In this album, he looks for his inner voice, without the rest of the band. "I've gone on an incredible journey and I hope you'll all join me.", he says to his fans and is also directing their attention to his new movie. Oh, and to all the doubtful fans out there, DON'T WORRY: (Meanwhile) Bon Jovi's not breaking up.

You might expect that after a long tour where Jon spends three hours on stage, he'd take a long relaxing break from all the comotion and excitement. But he decides that he wants to star in a movie and release a second solo album. "Tell us," say the press, "can't you just sit at home with your wife and kids? What's your problem, Bon Jovi?"
"I try to stop working, I swear" he says, "but I guess I'm just a deranged workaholic."

"Destination Anywhere" is totaly different from what ever Bon Jovi album you've ever listened to. Jon, who spent a long time in London in order to film "The Leading Man", was affected by the British music. He listened to the radio, went clubbing, went to concerts and understood everything, from brit-pop to dance. He also chose two producers who are very familiar with the British Rock scene: Dave Stewart, ex-Eurithmics member and Steve Lyroni, who produced music for Black Grape. London and it's residents also inspired Jon's first single from the album, called "Midnight In Chelsea".
"It's the most "modern" album I've ever made.", says Jon, "it sound much different from all the other albums and that's exactly what I wanted. It contains a lot of weird things in it, like trombones and sound that are operated by toys. Most of the songs are written by me. The band's albums were all written by Richie Sambora and I. This time, I'm on my own.

Jon's original intention was to work with as many different producers as possible, to refreshen his familliar sound. "This time I decided that nothing's sacred", he explains, "I started to work with David Foster, but we soon realized that it began to sound like one of the band's albums, and that wasn't my intention. Later on, I turned to Steve Lyroni because I liked the records he'd produced and that's also the same reason I'd turned to Dave Stewart. The hope that the final result will appeal to the fans. I just want to say to all my fans that I've gone on an incredible journey and I hope you'll all join me."

Jon wants to make it clear that he's not about to go off on some huge solo tour right now, because he can't find the right back-up band. If he'll go with Richie Sambora and the rest of the group then it'll be no different than if they was going as a band.

But have no fear! Bon Jovi fans can go see him in Wembley Arena on the 16th of August, in a very special live show where preformers like Seal, Rod Stewart and himself are going to cover old and popular songs. Then a short film will be screened. The film, which will be released on video sometime, stars Jon who's joined by the likes of Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Bacon and others.

The film emphasizes the change that Jon's going through. "I'm tired of just doing music videos", he says, "It bores the hell out of me. I have no patience to watch even half of the videos we made in the past. I wanted to combine my two passions, music and acting, and try something that I've never done before."

So, for the time being, as it seems, Jon's going to concentrate a lot more on his acting career, than music. Until now, he's had a small role in "Young Guns II", the leading role in "The Leading Man" and a minor role in "Moonlight and Valentino". In the near future we can see him in two more movies, "Little City", and "Homegrown", where he plays a..drug dealer..(a hem!). "It's a small part", Jon says, "but I wanted to be in the movie because, first of all, it also stars John Lithgow (from "Third Rock On the Sun") and Jamie Lee Curtis. Besides, Richie Sambora recommended the producer. His wife, Heather Locklear starred in one of his films and enjoyed it very much."

"I still don't see myself as a true-born actor, but I'm a fast learner. I watch experienced actors and learn from them. Every movie adds more confidence in me. I get a lot of scripts and spend a long time looking for the one that suits me best. Only now, do people see my potential as an actor, and what parts I'm qualified to play. I don't mind being in small films. It doesn't matter to me if the movie is one of those overblown budget ones, as longs as the script's good, the part's good and the dialogue makes sense, not like a lot of Hollywood movies--they really suck."

But what about the band? Has "Bon Jovi" dropped down to his second priority? Is this the first stage of a break-up? Are the band members, who've all gone their seperate ways, interested in ever working together again? In Jon's opnion, that's a retorical question, even an insulting one. "I love these guys!" he protests, "Why should we split-up? The Rolling Stones still exist. If they can do it, why can't we? Besides, what difference does it make if I'm also an actor? Frank Sinatra starred in more than 50 movies and still recorded and preformed songs till he was 80. Meanwhile, the band's on a break. We'll start recording a new album towards the end of next year. Look, sometimes we get together for lunch or something like that. I see the band is a healthy body, it lives and breathes, and there's no need to end it. Even if our album sales aren't as high as they used to be in the past, we're not spliting up. Our record company believes us and supports us all throughout the way. My solo album doesn't need to affect the future of the band.
