silverchair

So who are Silverchair?
silverchair is a rock/grunge band from Newcastle, Australia. Daniel (Johnsy) and Ben used to play in a band called "Short Elvis", when they were really young, but they needed a bass player, so they called Chris. In 1994, just to have something to do, they entered a demo competition and they won!! There were 800 other bands, but their song "Tomorrow" kicked some serious ass! So, after that, the prize was a day at the australian Triple j radio station studios to record an EP and a video. At that time, "Tomorrow" was the most requested song. The band's name at that time was "innocent crimminals, with a fourth member, Toby, who left the band. They were sick of that name, so they changed it to silverchair(They got it when, they were requesting two songs on the radio, "Berlin Chair", by the Aussie band You Am I, and "Silver", by Nirvana... so, Chris wrote down the songs names, then he just put Silver and Chair together and they thought it was a good band name). In 1995, they finally recorded their first album, "Frogstomp", which became a major success, with 11 great songs, including "Tomorrow" and "Pure Massacre". In 1996, their second album, "Freak Show" came out, with 13 songs, including the first single, "Freak" (followed by Abuse me and Cemetery). They toured around the world, promoting the new album, including the "Summer Freak Show Tour", which was around Australia, which ended in Perth (near me!). After that big tour around their country, they spent a whole year, 1998, in an extensive break (deserved!), and, in the end of the year, recording their third album, called "Neon Ballroom", with 12 songs, including the single "Anthem for the year 2000" and "emotion sickness", recorded with David Helfgott. Silverchair have released this album and itz so wicked. The Chair will be touring in August in OZ. See ya there Chair, at Perth Entertainment Centre August 8th!.
