March 2000 Questions

April 2000 Q & A

From: Kevin Cohen
1. Hi Bill,
This is a question I've been wondering for awhile. I've loved the song "My Girl" ever since I heard it, approx. 15 years ago, I am 27 now. Is "My Girl" based on a real/true event (autobiographical) or just something you wrote?
Thank you for your time,
Kevin Cohen

Bill Henderson: A figment of my imagination. Glad you liked it Kevin.

2. Thank you for this opportunity. My introduction to your music, Bill, happened when I heard The Collectors open a concert headlined by Iron Butterfly in Seattle (I believe it was in early 1970). It was quite a performance with a medley of songs from the Grass & Wild Strawberries album, and What Love (Suite). Seventeenth Summer was a highlight. Honestly, it influenced my life attitude and helped steer me into learning to play music. I continue to play guitar in a band these days, as it helps me keep my (in)sanity. The Collectors and early Chilliwack will always have a special place in my heart as an influence. My question is; who were your own music heroes that helped shape your style?

Bill Henderson:
1. A friend who had some amazing ideas and beliefs about music
2. Notions that I'd heard attributed to John Cage
3. Lennon McCartney and George Martin
4. Cream's jams
5. Notions my mother had planted in me about the power of truth.
6. I tried to learn from everything heard.

3. From Bill Williams:
Hi Bill,
Just a basic question - why hasn't Chilliwack's music been put out on CD format yet? Is the fact that the band has been on many lables over the years have something to do with it?
Bill Williams - Anchorage, AK

Bill Henderson: Yeah that's part of it. Many of the more successful albums were on independent labels that went out of business with individuals retaining ownership of the masters who aren't interested in doing much with them.

4. Hey Bill,
I stumbled across this website a while back and was impressed with the work that has gone into it. Just shows how many people love the music of Chilliwack. Fantastic. I was the one who sent you that album a while back and am anxious along with everyone else to see the release of something from Chilliwack. Myself, after seeing endless compilations , box sets and the like from just about every artist imagineable , remastered or otherwise, Chilliwack qualifies big time to do an extensive box set compiled from every one of their albums. And for good measure a few tracks from "The Collectors' daze would be phenomenal. I could really suggest the tracks (but that would be just my favourites). There are so many songs to choose from it might take at least a 5 cd box set which would be awesome. That is just my humble opinion. My records , tapes, 45's are well worn and I'm not getting any younger so quit teasing us. Ha Ha. I read somewhere you published a book in the early 80's. If so is it still available? If not you should , i think someone who's been in the business as long as you and seen and done what you have certainly deserves to be in print. It would make for fabulous reading. Hope to catch Chilliwack at one of your concerts this year.

Bill Henderson: Thanks Roger. I remember you at the PNE show a couple years back. I'm working on a live Chilliwack album now. Hope to have it ready for sale this summer. The rest will gradually come.

I didn't write a book. I think about it some times.

Bill
