bar dynamite

1808 W. Washington (click for map)
(619) 295-8743

ed. note: bar dynamite has been gutted, redesigned and under new management. it is now a "classy little lounge" with dj's and sometimes live bands. i've been there and it's not too shabby, but expensive with weak drinks. a lot of eye candy for both sexes, and the dj's are pretty sick. below is the original review for those of you who remember.

Bar Dynamite is your standard dive. It's right across the street from Gelato Vera so it occasionally draws in the Cafe types. The place has a tendency to get a bit hot. I'm not sure if it's because of the absence of air conditioning, but the two fans running 24/7 might be a clue.

The bartenders are pretty cool. One, an Asian lady, owns the bar and is usually seen sitting at the video poker machine.

Fun Stuff:

  • Video Poker
  • Bad-ass jukebox
  • There's actually a plaque with someone's name on it screwed onto the bar
  • Two 50-cent pool tables. I swear to God they're smaller than normal but I can't prove it. Free on Sundays.
  • The tables have this cool pattern on them that you can trip out on.
  • Most of the glasses (pints not included) have bumps on the bottom. Try making patterns on a napkin.
Comments:
  • Cool place that you never really notice so it doesn't get too crowded.
