GNETALES

Gnetales are woody plants, trees, shrubs, lianas, etc. Leaves are opposite or whorled, etc. Reproductive organs are unisexual and usually dioecious. Female reproductive organs have a single erect ovule, the nucellus surrounded by two or three envelopes, and the micropyle projecting as a long tube. Male reproductive organs have a perianth and antherophores with one to eight synangia. Fertilization is by means of a pollen tube with two male nuclei. Embryos have two cotyledons.
