Chapter7

Stacie smiled as she watched Kevin reassure and kiss Chloe. She and Nick were curled up on a loveseat across the room, Stacie leaning against Nick while he had his arms wrapped around her. She looked up at him and was caught in his gaze. "I love you," he said softly.

"I love you too," said Stacie. The two gently kissed. Once Chloe was assured that everything was fine, everyone piled into the cars and headed towards the girls' houses, the guys following the girls. They made a quick stop at a nearby convienence store to pick up drinks and snacks for when they were at the park. They first dropped Stacie and Nick off at Stacie's house and said they'd pick them up in about 15-20 minutes. They then drove the very short distance to Chloe's house. The rest of the guys climbed out of the car and followed Chloe into her house. "Mom?" said Chloe, looking around for her mother.

"I'm right here, Chloe" said Mrs. James, coming down the hallway. "How was the concert?"

"Great," said Chloe. "I want you to meet some people," she added. By this time, all the guys were standing behind her. "Mom, this is Brian, A.J., Howie, and Kevin," she said, pointing to each guy in turn. "Four-fifths of the Backstreet Boys. Nick is over at Stacie's house," she explained.

"Hello, nice to meet you," said Mrs. James. "Hello Mrs. James. We're very happy to meet you," said Kevin, shaking her hand. "You have a wonderful daughter." Mrs. James smiled and said thank you. Chloe could see that her mother was approving of Kevin.

"Mom," said Chloe "We're going to the waterpark for a while, is that okay?"

"Okay, as long as you don't stay out too late."

"Okie," said Chloe as she went to her room to change. Over at Stacie's house, the general same thing happened. Mrs. Redson took an instant liking to Nick, just like Stacie had hoped she would. She came back from changing to find Nick telling her mom about his family. "You ready?", said Stacie.

"Yup," said Nick. "Nice meeting you Mrs. Redson."

"Same to you Nick." The two headed towards the door, only to be run over by Stacie's younger brother Alex. He came to a halt when he saw Nick. "Who's that?" he said in his normal obnoxious way.

"This is Nick," said Stacie.

"He your new boyfriend?" he said in an annoying teasing voice. Both blushed a little and looked at each other.

"Maybe," said Stacie, mimicking Alex's tone. Alex's reply was to stick his tounge out and run back to his room. Stacie shook her head and told Nick to "just ignore him." They went outside and sat on the steps to wait for Chloe and the rest of the guys. They didn't have to wait long. About a minute later, the two cars pulled up and honked their horns. Stacie and Nick both stood up and climbed into the cars, Nick in the guys' car and Stacie in Chloe's 4Runner. Then the two cars pulled away and began the trip over to the waterpark. It didn't take very long. When they arrived, the park manager was standing at the entrance gate. "I was wondering when y'all would show up," he said as the group walked up.

"We took a little longer than we thought we would," said A.J.

"Hope we didn't keep you waiting too long," added Stacie. The manager shook his head and waved off the idea.

"You didn't keep me waiting long at all. Now, y'all are free to use the park 'till whenever. When you're ready to leave, tell the guard at the gate and he'll shut everything down. There are a few attendants and janitors around here, so if you need any help, you can ask one of them. Everything clear?" he asked. All of them nodded and said, "Yup."

"Okay then. The park is all yours," the manager said and he opened up the gate. They all swarmed in. Everyone immediately jumped into the huge main pool. After a few minutes of splashing around, a huge water war had erupted, every man/woman for themselves. After a while, they had tired of this and everyone swam around and took turns on the slides and diving boards. "Guys," said Stacie, getting out of the pool. "I'm going back to the car to get a drink, anybody else want anything while I'm there?"

"Could you bring me back a Dr. Pepper?" asked Brian. Stacie nodded.

"Sure, anyone else want anything?"

"Nope," everyone replied.

"Okay, then I'm going," she said, grabbing the keys.

"Hang on," said Nick, pulling himself out of the water. "I'll come with you."

"Okay, we're going. We'll be back in a few minutes," she said, as they walked off, Nick's arm around her waist. The others continued playing about. Stacie and Nick were making their way to the entrance when Nick suddenly stopped. "What is it?" Asked Stacie, look up at him questioningly. He put his finger to his lips, signaling her to be quiet. He looked around suspiciously. "Did you hear that?" whispered Nick. Stacie listened, but all she heard was the sounds of everyone else in the pool.

"I didn't hear anything," she whispered back. Nick turned around and looked behind them.

"I could've sworn I heard someone behind us," he said. He shrugged. "Guess I was just hearing things," he said, turning back around and continuing towards the cars.

"Nicky-boy," said Stacie, following him. "I think you've been watching too many movies."

About 25 minutes later, Chloe noticed the time. "Hey, Stacie and Nick have been gone nearly half an hour. What's taking them so long?"

"Maybe they got a little 'distracted'," said Howie with a mischievous smile. Chloe just gave him a LOOK.

"Seriously, it shouldn't have taken them near this long. Where are they?"

Kevin shrugged and pulled himself out of the pool. "Don't know," he said. "But we'd better go find out. Knowing Nick, he's found someway to get in trouble." Everyone decided to get out and find the two. They all made their way to the gate, looking along the way. They finally made their way to the front gate.... Only to find it locked up with a chain and padlock. "What the hell?" said Kevin, looking very confused at the padlock around the gate. He looked across the dark parking lot to see if he could see anything.

"Hey," said Howie, looking around. "Where's the guard? Where's anyone?"

"Don't know," said Kevin. "Nick!" he shouted, looking to see if he could see him anywhere.

"Stacie!" shouted Chloe, her voice wavering a bit. Kevin could tell Chloe was starting to get scared. He went to her and wrapped his arms around her. "Don't worry," he told her "I'm sure everything will be alright." Chloe looked up at him and nodded then pulled him closer to her. "Nick! Stacie! Anybody!" shouted Howie.

"Nick, if this is another one of your pranks, it's not funny anymore," shouted Kevin. Still there was no response. Suddenly, all the power went out. Everyone involuntarily jumped and most let out a scream of some sort. Chloe clung even tighter to Kevin. "Is there anyway to climb to the gate or something?" said Brian. A.J. examined the entrance gate.

"Not that I can see guys," he said with regret.

"So we're stuck in here?!?" said Chloe, a note of panic in her voice.

"Maybe," said Howie.

"Hey, who's that?" Brian suddenly said. He pointed out beyond the gate to where someone was walking up with a flashlight.

"Hey, you there!" shouted Kevin to the unknown person. The figure continued walking up, not replying to Kevin. The person finally made it up by the gate. Whoever it was shone the flashlight on the group. "What are you people doing in here?" said a gruff voice. Kevin spoke for them.

"We were supposed to be able to stay in the park 'till whenever we wanted. We think someone forgot."

"I never heard anything about this. And the managers of the place tell me all the going ons so I can check on the place," said the voice.

"We made the arrangements with one of the managers, Mr. Bobby Jacobs. You can call him up and ask him," said Kevin.

"OH!" said the voice. "You made arrangements through Bobby? No wonder I didn't hear about it. He's a forgetful, never remembers to tell anybody anything." The man pulled out a key and unlocked the gate. He gestured with his hand for all of them to come out. "But what about Stacie and Nick?" said Chloe, who still had a firm grip on Kevin.

"Sir," said Brian to the man who was now locking back up the gate. "Have you by any chance seen two of our friends? One's a guy, blond hair, kind tall. The other is a girl, about 19, long blonde hair." The man pondered a minute before remembering something.

"Yes, I do believe I saw them earlier, talking to some man. I was out walking and I saw them head over that way and follow him into one of the houses down that way," he said. The group let out a small sigh of relief that they hadn't just disappeared. "Could you point out the house to us?" asked Howie.

"Sure thing sonny," said the man and he began walking in the direction he had seen them go. The rest of the group. Chloe hung back some. "Kevin, something isn't right. Why would Stace and Nick just go off with someone like that?" she said. Kevin shrugged.

"I don't know. Maybe they have a good reason. C'mon, let's catch up with the rest of the group," he said.

"Okay," said Chloe hesitantly. They caught up and began the walk to the house.
