Born in San Francisco, 1962, seems to be something that is hard for Kirk to remember since he got himself a tattoo wrapped around his belly button which reads: "Made in SF 11-18-62". As a child he found his brother's guitar the "neatest thing in the world", and he just couldn't leave it alone. At 15 he continued seriously playing the guitar and formed a garage band. They were all plugged into one amp, so naturally it blew up after a couple of rehearsels!

After school he earned some money by working at Burger King and in a warehouse, just so that he could buy a few guitars and a new amp. He took some guitar lessons and formed yet another band which was pretty successful, called "Exodus". They played around local clubs and it was about this time that Kirk first got in contact with Metallica.

After Metallica had kicked Dave Mustaine they called Kirk to ask him to jam with them. Kirk flew over to meet up with the band in New York. He didn't realised that he was hired before he was included in the recording of "Kill 'em all".

Kirk is a wonderful guitarist with lovely techniques and a full-blown kicking sound. His main influence is Jimi Hendrix. Being responsible for most of Metallica's guitar solos, Kirk has been a source of inspiration for a lot guitarists
around the world. He has also an extremely charismatic and sexy person
which of course is a plus.
