LARS ULRICH

Lars Ulrich is a drummer with an unusual background, born, in 1963, and raised in Denmark, he became a clever tennisplayer and wanted to follow his father's footsteps and become a tennis pro. The Ulrich-family moved to Los Angeless in 1980 to concentrate on the tennisplaying, but well there Lars relised how hard the competition was and instead of concentrating on the tennis he turned to his other favourite hobby- music. Hit 'em hard, hon!

Lars went on his first concert when he was ten and watching Deep Purple live obviously made a great impression on him since he he from that day on has been a keen heavy-metal fan. As a child he used to enjoy air-drumming, but in 1977 he got fed up with drumming on just air and after some convincing Lars got his first drumkit from his grandmother. He has been beating the hell out of it ever since.

In Los Angeles Lars felt a little left alone with his music, because his favourite music at the time were bands under the genre "New Wave Of Brittish Heavy Metal", which included groups like Iron Maiden and Dimondhead, and this was not very popular in LA. Finding James to play with was a relief for Lars since James also liked this kind of music. NWOBHM started in 1979 but fizzeld out in 1982. It is from NWOBHM that Lars got his greatest influences.

Quite contrary to James Lars is, beinng a true Dane, talkative and open-hearted, and he often serves as the spokesman for the band. Confusingly to some fans Lars likes the Brittish (shite )pop-group Oasis very much. Lars describes himself as anticipating, stubborn, sarcastic, talkative, spontaneous and silly and this matches well with how he is regarded by most people who have met him.

Together with James he has written most of Metallica's music, and though different the pair matches eachother very well as we know.
