Chris Rock is in the Apollo Theater in Harlem taping a special for HBO called "Bigger And Blacker". The show will feature Ol' Dirty Bastard as well as Slick Rick, Ice Cube and Biz Markie, and is slated to air on July 11th. Further info is expected to be released through HBO this week. Raekwon is going to appear on Slick Rick's latest album The Art Of Storytelling, slated for a May 25th release. The track is titled "Frozen", and it will be interesting to see these 2 completely different styles matched up. They might even need separate production to cover the 2 MCs, who knows? Small update, but that's the latest... Do you have some underground, insider info? Hit me up at WuBrotherNumber1@hotmail.com. If it's legit I guarantee you'll get credit for your 411!! |

Here's the latest in the Wu-Chronicles... According to HipHopSite.Com The Genius/GZA is furiously working in the studio on his new album Beneath The Surface due out this summer with the first single and video "Breaker, Breaker" due out in May. The album will feature the usual Clan cameos and guarantees to be one of the sharpest swords yet to come flying out of Shaolin. I don't know about you loyal House Residents out there, but this is one album I have been waiting to hear about ever since Liquid Swords left me jonsin for more back in '95. A warm welcome back GZA. It was the next logical step for some of the pioneers of the modern era of the businessman in hip hop... from the crew who signed a then exclusive deal with Loud Records which allowed them to break apart and sign with other labels for solo deals yet remain loyal to Loud... from the first artists to release a major and successful clothing line (with apologies to Naughty By Nature - the gear was fly but no one really bought it)... Shaolin's finest now have their own video game! Activision is working on a new video game called "Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style" featuring the actual Clansmen with their own moves and own styles. The game will be released for the Sony Playstation sometime this year, probably just in time for the Christmas shopping season. The accompanying soundtrack is also scheduled to contain 3 new tracks from the Clan, making this a must have for any Wu heads out there. And just when I thought I could avoid all the Playstation hype... In album release news, first up is the Wu-Syndicate, whose self-titled album came out on the 20th. The debut sword from this 2-man crew from Virginia contains production from The RZA, DJ Devastator, Tata, E the Dred and Mathematics (who laced a few joints on Cappadonna's LP) as well as guest appearances by 12 O'Clock, Napoleon, Trigga and KGB. With 18 tracks, including the first single "Where Was Heaven" (also on The Swarm) and "Latunza" (a.k.a. "Latunza Hit" from the Wu-Chronicles CD), this is almost a view from the mob side of things within the Clan. Myalansky and Joe Mafia are here to handle business and take no prisoners. This album comes highly recommended and is guaranteed to nod heads and break necks. Next up is word that Canibus's new album The C-Quel featuring Killah Priest may only be an EP, but is slated for a May 25th unveiling. Other upcoming releases include a new album from Run-DMC called Crown Royal featuring Meth due for a late summer/early fall release, and Ice-T's new album The Seventh Deadly Sin (rumored to feature The RZA) which will release promo singles on MP3.com before the actual album hits the stores. On the flipside of things, it's reported that Deadly Venoms has been released from A&M Records due to the mega-merger between Polygram and Seagram, which left a lot of lesser-known acts in the dirt. Here's hoping they get picked up again soon. That's the latest... check back in soon for the latest on the Clan! |

Some quick hits to keep you in the midst: It what looks like an overly stupid move on BMG's part, they dropped their distribution deal with Loud Records, once again slowing up the release of Inspectah Deck's LONG awaited solo LP Uncontrolled Substance, possibly as far back as June of '99 now. This also affects Raekwon and the Clan themselves, altho Deck is the only one with anything sitting on the shelf, ready to go out the door. This could also put a delay into the release of Mobb Deep's fourth album Murda Muzik, which could have some more Wu-Tang guest appearances, altho nothing's been confirmed on that. That long-rumored collaboration of Killah Priest, Kurupt, Canibus and Ras Kass will appear on Canibus's new album The C-Quel, due out in June sometime. The track will be called either "The Four Horsemen" or "Horse Mentality" (which by itself is just a strange song title) and is guaranteed to be bananas. And if you hadn't figured by now, the House Of The Rising Son is once again open! Welcome back to all those who patiently waited, and welcome to all newcomers. Walk around and become enlightened... |
