What is Rayman? This isn't one of the best known games, but it has gotten rave reviews all around. It is a scrolling adventure game like Commander Keen, and actually has versions for the Sony Playstation and/or Nintendo- I'm not sure. However, this game is quite different from all those mario scrolling games. The graphics are exceptional, and the play is quite unique.

You start out with just the ability to jump, and once you get through levels you aquire new abilities, such as a fist to punch things, the ability to hang, and others. It consists of a large number of levels that are extremely challenging. Sometimes it is necessary to turn off the background images inorder to speed up the game, but sometimes it is very useful for it to be as slow as possible. There are 5 "worlds" each with their own characteristics, levels and bosses.

However, just finishing the levels is not enough. In each level there are 6 cages that are hiding somewhere. In order to get to the last level, all of the cages must be found. And these cages aren't easy to find either. Usually there are tings pointing to the secret areas where they can be found. You have to not be afraid to jump into what appears to be certain death if you want to find all of the cages.

Another enjoyable feature of this game is the sound. Since it requires the CD inorder to run, it uses 15 or so different CD tracks for the background music. The music itself is quite good considering that it was made for a video game. I would say the score is almost as catchy as that Mario music (you know the original Super Mario Bros. first level- da da da   da da da    boing!- oh never mind) Anyways, ya the music is good.

And the graphics are amazing. The gameplay itself isn't that great, but it is an original idea- and Steve likes originality. Most important, it's really fun. My sister has spent entire days playing this game. It was designed for pre-teens I suspect (i.e. no blood nor gore) but anybody could enjoy it.
