Castle of Mud

I tried to build a castle out of mud
And decorated it the best I could
So beautiful. I thought my rushing blood
Would burn so bright forever as it should.
I showed my friends my wretched work of art
And laughter lifted up our souls so high
The gossiping was grand right from the start
About this wretched thing – it was a lie.
Yet still I tried to live within its halls -
The castle made of mud. My burning blood
Would not turn back so soon, it set up walls
To hide me from the truth – castle of mud.
But sunlight is a certain thing, my friend
It shines so bright the light upon Pretend.
