Chapter 15

"Man it feels great to have a day off," Howie said as he looked around at the snow boards.
"Yeah I know. This going to be fun. I can't wait to get out on the slopes," Kevin replied.
"I like this one," Howie said as he picked up a purple snowboard.
Kevin snickered. "I knew you'd pick that one."
"Hey don't diss the board. Purple's a really cool color."
"If you say so. But personally I like this one," Kevin said as he held up a blue one.
"That one's cool too."
"Come on let's get these checked out so we can hit the slopes."
Kevin and Howie checked out their snow boards and got on the ramp to go up the hill. Both of them were in awe of the scenery.
"I love Colorado," Kevin said.
"Me too. I love the mountains."
The ski lift reached the top of the mountain and the boys got off. Kevin took in a breath of fresh air and let it out with a sigh. "Mmmm the smell of fresh snow. I love it! Come on lets hit the easy slopes for a quick warm up."
"Okay," Howie said as he followed Kevin to the top of the bunny slope.
Kevin strapped on his board and edged his way to the top of the slope. "Let's ride!" Kevin said in a cocky tone and slid down the hill, with Howie close behind. "man that was too easy!" Kevin stated at the bottom of the hill.
"Yeah, but fun. Wanna go back up and try it again?" Howie asked.
Kevin shook his head. "Nah, this stuff is for the rookies. We're pros let's move on up to the advanced slopes."
"I dunno Kev. I mean it's been a while since we've done this. I think we should warm up a little more."
Kevin let out a cocky scoff. "Oh please! We can do this. No problem! Come on," Kevin said as he walked toward the ski lift.
"Wait," Howie said from behind.
Kevin rolled his eyes in annoyance and turned around. "What now?"
"The boot on my board doesn't feel right. I don't know if I should go up there just yet," Howie said, checking out his boot.
"You wanna switch boots? Would that make you happy?" Kevin said.
"Okay," Howie said as he undid his snowboard. After they switched snow boards Kevin proceeded his way back up to the ski life. "You're still going up there?"
"Of course! Are you coming?"
"No, I think I'm going to try the bunny slopes a few more times. I'll catch up with you later," Howie said.
"Suit yourself," Kevin said as he walked up the hill.
"Wait!" Howie shouted again.
"What do you want?" Kevin said with a groan.
"I'm coming with you. There's no way I'm letting you do this alone," Howie said as he caught up with Kevin.
Kevin laughed and continued his way up the hill. When they reached the top of the hill, they checked their snowboards and edged to top of the slope. "Here goes nothing," Kevin said he slid down the hill. Kevin whooshed around the trees at high speed. Attempting to do a difficult double axle 360 he felt his board slip from the ground when he landed. He tumbled down the slope and slid into a tree.
"Kevin!" Howie shouted as he unstrapped his board. Kevin didn't answer, he just laid still as pain ran through his body. "Kev are you okay?"
"I think so," he said as he attempted to sit up. A sharp pain shot through his right shoulder. He let out a groan of pain. "I think I broke my shoulder."
"Can you move it?" Howie asked.
"No," Kevin said with another groan.
Howie quickly took off his coat and wrapped it around Kevin. "Stay here I'm going to go get help."
"Hurry!" Kevin yelled. Kevin laid still in the snow and waited for Howie. Trying his best to subside the pain he closed his eyes and breathed in slowly. Fifteen minutes later the paramedics came and carried Kevin away on a stretcher to a nearby ambulance. "God, Sarah's gonna kill me," he said out loud.
"I'm gonna call up to the hotel," Howie said as he reached for his cell phone. He took one last glance at Kevin, who had passed out from the pain. O h geez this is all my fault, he thought then dialed the number to the number to the hotel.
