'Please be good news, please be good news,' she pleaded over and over in
her mind. She felt Brian squeeze her hand, she looked over at him and forced
a smile.
They both looked at Dr. Lara.
"I'm afraid it's bad news..." she started.
"Oh God, I lost the baby didn't I?" Annie asked.
"Yes, but-"
Annie cut her off, " I knew it! My stomach kept hurting and I know Nick
didn't want to tell me, but there was blood on my shirt. Why does this have
to happen now? Things were going so good, I was happy and Brian was happy. I
even thought of some names for the baby, sure it was early, but I already
kne-" Annie was cut off by Dr. Lara's hand clamping over her mouth.
Once she stopped talking she removed her hand.
"What?" Annie asked.
"You didn't let me finish now be quiet while I talk."
"Sorry," she looked down sheepishly.
"It's OK, I know you're upset. You didn't lose both of them though."
"Both of who?" Brian asked.
"The babies, you knew you were having twins, right?"
"Oh My God, no we didn't know!"
"The fall you took only affected one of the embryos so you still have
another healthy baby in there," she smiled, closing the charts.
Annie looked at Brian, "Do you hear that? I'm still pregnant!" she
exclaimed.
"I'll leave you two alone, while I get your sign out papers ready."
"I can leave?"
"Yeah, I don't see why not. Your pretty much fine, except that you lost
quite an amount of blood, don't worry it's not much, but you'll be a little
weak. So you have to take it easy," she said and closed the door behind her.
"Oh I was so scared I lost the baby and I didn't!" Annie let out a sigh
of relief once the doctor was gone.
"Brian are OK?" she asked noticing Brian was off in his own little world.
He looked up, "I'm fine. I guess, it's just the thought of we could've
have two beautiful babies. But because of that psycho path we're not!"
"It's OK-"
"No it's NOT OK!" he stood up.
"She put you and my friends in danger and hell she tried to kill me!" he
threw his hands up, "I hate her, I really do. Not because of what she did to
me, but to you."
"There's no use living in the past. I was mad too, but I realized she
didn't get anything in the end. I don't even care about her, she not the one
with you, she's not the one that's having your - our child, I am. Could you
just forget about her, I know it's going to be hard, but to move on and take
care of yourself you have to."
Brian went to sit next to her on the bed, "What would I do without you?"
"You wouldn't survive," she laughed.
'I can't wait, I have to do this now before I chicken out,' Brian
thought, then started looking through his coat.
"I know this is not the way you probably dreamed about this, but I want
to this now. The moment seems right," he said and got on one knee next to the
bed. He pulled up a black velvet box.
Annie's eyes filled with tears when she saw Brian get on the floor, "Oh
My God, baby," she whispered.
He looked up at her, " I knew I loved you before I met you," he paused
smiling at the pun he made, "I fell in love you the first time I saw you and
I knew it would be forever. You're the best friend, lover, teacher, woman a
man could want. And I have you...I just want you forever," he took the ring
out of the box and lifted her hand, "Annie Rosalyn Millano, will you do me
the honor of being my wife?"
She shook her head yes, afraid if she tried to talk nothing would come
out.
He slipped the 24 karat diamond on her finger and kissed her hand, "
Don't cry, baby," he wiped away her tears with his thumb and kissed her.
She smiled through her tears, "That was the way I dreamed of it
happening. With you."
He climbed in the bed next to her and wrapped his arms around her, "Now
that I got you forever, I'm never leaving," he said into her hair.
"Never is a promise, buddy. Are you sure you can live up to it?" she
teased.
"I don't break my promises."
