Chapter 3-Part II_______God Says Who He Is
It has been stated that "all roads lead to God." This is the common stand amongst those who believe in more than one God (polytheism), as well as those who believe that God is in all of creation (pantheism). This is more accurately defined as?the whole self-existent and self-developing universe is God. Taking into consideration that there are variations which deviate from a strict interpretation of either thought, they generally include the worship of all gods. In such a belief system, it is taught that when one dies they are ultimately reunited with their creator?the universe or God. In the ignorance of biblical truth, these individuals have unknowingly prophesied their own futures. If there is to be a great white throne judgment, it stands to reason that in truth all roads will ultimately lead there. This is not exactly good news! The real question is, when one reaches the end of the road, will they be the recipient of such Judgement or will they be a bystander observing the outcome. In other words, will they be standing before the Great White Throne or the Judgment Seat of Christ. For it is here that the Bible speaks of God separating the sheep from the goats. It is very well understood that there are many gods and goddesses and that they go by many different names. But what does God say about Himself? It really wouldn't be fair to pass judgment on His true identity until we have heard from God. It is in His testimony that we will find truth, for God cannot lie. In speaking of Jehovah God, the Bible tells us more than once that "...the Glory of Israel will not lie..." ?Therefore, it is by His testimony that we will most certainly know who He is and who He is not. It is by this knowledge that we will be able to establish in our minds the distinguishing difference between His true believers and the unbelievers. Not everyone who claims to believe in God are His true believers. God will draw His people unto Himself and those who are not His people will go with their gods. According to Jesus, their final destiny is everlasting punishment in Gehenna which was originally created for the Devil and his angels. Moses tells us that it was God who created the heavens, the earth, and all that exists within them. In the beginning, God enjoyed verbal as well as face-to-face contact with Adam and Eve while they were yet in an unsinful state. Due to the fact that sinful flesh cannot dwell in the presence of a righteous God it is evident that the face to face ceased, but this verbal communication continued even after they had both sinned. It is also recorded that God spoke to Cain as well as to Noah and his three sons. After this, it would appear that God reserved such communication to mostly those within the messianic line. It is presumed that He both appeared and spoke to Abram (whose name was later changed to Abraham) in dreams. On more than one occasion the individual known as the Angel of Jehovah appeared to him in what is commonly known as a christophene (an Old Testament appearance of Jesus Christ). It is quite possible that Melchezedek was a manifestation of such phenomena since He is at times compared with Jesus Christ in the New Testament. God both appeared and spoke to Isaac in much the same manner as with his father Abraham. We are told that Jacob actually wrestled with God and saw Him face-to-face. What he saw was the Angel of Jehovah! This would imply another christophene appearance. It is here that God changed his name from Jacob (meaning: heel catcher) to Israel, meaning governed by God. This name was given because he persevered or contended with God and was able to prevail. Out of the children of Israel came a man called Moses. He saw and spoke with the Angel of Jehovah who calls Himself God [Elohiym] as He gives to Moses His name and title. "And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire from the middle of a thorn bush. And he looked, and behold, the thorn bush was burning with fire, and the thorn bush was not burned up! And Moses said ?I will turn aside now and see this great sight, why the thorn bush is not burned up.' And Jehovah saw that he turned aside to see, and God [Elohiym] called to him from the midst of the thorn bush and said, Moses! Moses! And he said, I am. Here. And He said, do not come near here, pull off your sandals from your feet for the place on which you are standing is holy ground. And He said, I am the God [Elohiym] of your fathers, the God of Israel, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he feared to look upon God. And Jehovah said, I have certainly seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry from before their slave drivers; for I know his sorrows. And I have come to deliver them from the hand of Egypt, and to deliver them from that land to a land good and broad, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite . . ." "And Moses said to God, Behold, I shall come to the sons of Israel and say to them, the God of your fathers has sent me to you; and they will say to me, what is His name? What shall I say to them? And God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM, and He said, you shall say this to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you. And God said to Moses again, you shall say this to the sons of Israel, Jehovah the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My title from generation to generation.". . .
