Well I guess I will do a quick update now and then maybe I can fill in the rest later. On Saturday I went on my first training ride ever, 50 miles in the hot, hot sun! I also rode yesterday and today, around 10 miles yesterday and maybe a little more today, just enough to keep me working while I recover from the 50 mile ride.

I see I'm a little over due for an entry. Well I haven't really had much of a chance to bike, I've been really busy and we were getting a fair amout of snow (it wasn't sticking much, but it just kept on coming down) and I have a gym class which takes up a fair chunck of time that I have for biking, but I figure that since it's a gym class it's not too bad. It's swimming actually, and I think it's really a good work out. Wednesday I finally had a chance to get out on my bike, it was a beautiful day and I did two or three fairly large hills, so it was a good workout. It looks like it's going to be nice for awhile now, so hopefully I'll be able to get out more often.

This past week was pretty nasty and then this past weekend I went to Long Island for Easter so I didn't have my bike for the only nice days this week. But I did walk a lot, my grandmother and I went for a walk on the beach and we just walked lots of places, so it wasn't too bad. I was going to try to ride my bike this afternoon, but then it started snowing pretty hard, so I guess I'm confined to the gym again.

So we did end up going for a ride, it was about 20 miles and I didn't fall at all. They were a little faster than me, but I was able to keep up pretty well. Unfortunately that was the only time that I was able to ride over break, but now I have my bike here at school and hopefully I'll be able to ride more often (as long as it doesn't snow too much!).

I went down to Virginia today to hang out with my brother, as a matter of fact I am at his house right now. I came down to go for a ride and to go to an AIDSRide Expo or something of the sort. Actually my sister and I didn't make it to the orientation that we had planned on going to (bad, bad directions), so I figured the expo would be good. Before leaving to head down and visit my brother I stopped by my old high school and gave a pledge sheet to my old guidance counselor, he said that he would try to get the department to give me some money, so hopefully that means I'll get a fair amount from them. So after that I had taken about an hour long Metro trip (during which I lost my cell phone) before I met up with my brother and we went to a couple of bike stores to look at clipless pedals and bike shoes. I ended up with both as well as a pair of socks and a pair of bike shorts, so it looks like tomorrow is going to be the day to try it all out, if it doesn't rain too much. I'll let you know how it goes and how many falls and bruises I end up with soon.

It's been really beautiful here for most of the past week, so it was a little hard not having my bike here. It was also extremely hard for me to make it to the gym, so most of my exercise last week was just from going on walks. Today I finally got back to the gym and I rode for two hours. I ran into Molly (the leader of my wilderness adventure trip) there and we talked about the ride for a little bit and she told me that she would ride with me once I get my bike up here and show me some of the good routes. Now the only thing that I have to do is get my bike outfitted for the ride. My sister just fixed her bike up, and it was expensive. I'm not really looking forward to that, but it'll be nice to have the clipless pedals.

Yesterday I was talking to my brother on-line (he did the ride last year and is doing it again this year) and we started talking about my spring break. The plan is that I am going to an orientation for the ride during the first weekend of the break, and the second weekend my brother, his girlfriend, and I are going to go on a 60 mile training ride. I'm a little scared about that, but you can make it a 30 mile ride if you need to. I'm really looking forward to it though, my first long distance ride on a real bike (I'm getting sick of using the exercise bikes). So two more weeks until my first real ride. I'm going to look into getting clips and having my bike fitted when I get home. I'm not exactly sure what a bike "fitting" is, but I'll let you know once I get it done. All I have to say is I'm really exicted!

I'd been training fairly hard for the ride until last weekend. Saturday night (the 16th) I fell and (they think I) ruptured a ligament in my pinkie. Not only that but last week was also the week from hell. I had a paper to write, a Spanish test, a Spanish paper to write, a doctor's appointment, etc., etc., etc.. I did go to my aerobics classes on Monday and Wednesday, but that's all that I really did. This past weekend I did get to the gym and rode the bike for about an hour and a half and I went to hockey practice on Sunday, my finger hurt afterwards, but it wasn't too bad. So hopefully now I'll be able to get back into the swing of things, but we'll see.
