While silverchair's on Break...
silverchair's official e-mail letter let us on the scoop on what's happing to the band on their long deserved break. :)
silverchair's e-mail newsletter:
Some cool fun facts on Silverchair's goings-on. First, "Miss You Love" is featured in a new Austrailan movie called "Looking For Alibrandi" which recently had a very strong opening in the boys' homeland. The song features very prominently in the movie during a love scene gone wrong — very appropriate given the lyric! No word on a US release for the film.

The guys have been busy writing and attending some various gigs during their downtime. They've been spotted at shows by Primus, Mr. Bungle and Macy Gray. And what's this about Ben requesting a pair of tickets for teen hearthrobs 5ive? Turns out they were actually for his girlfriend and a friend of hers...

Daniel and Natalie (if the rumos are true)
www.imbruglia.com Natalie Imbruglia's Official Site
Well there has been rumours that Natalie has been dating fellow Aussie Daniel Johns, frontman with rock band Silverchair. They have alledgedly been seeing each other for several months now, and have enjoyed romantic nights in five-star hotels while touring Down Under and Natalie has been there visiting family and friends. Although Natalie allegedly was keen to keep the relationships secret, they supposedly have now decided to go public with there relationship. First they were spotted smooching backstage at the ARIA awards, Then they were seen canoodling at the Homebake indie festival in Sydney. One onlooker told Imbruglia.Com "They looked very much a couple and were really enjoying themselves. They didn't seem to care who could see them. "Natalie looked really happy and sat in the corner stroking Daniel's hair." A close pal of Natalie's told us: "Natalie has always had a soft spot for Daniel and has even gone to some of his gigs in disguise.
"She loves Silverchair's music but the main reason is obviously Daniel himself." From all of us at Imbruglia.com We would like to wish Natalie and Daniel the very best. Good luck to the both of you !! that is... If the rumours are true !!

Pete says "bye" to chairpage
Since 1996 Pete has kept chairheads up-to-date in all of the important news about silverchair. The brilliant official site has been obviously a favorite of all silverchair fans and he has made it so that the site is in the top 8 of all of the internet site (meaning out of all of the sites in the internet, chairpage is in the top 8! AWESOME). He will be missed but the site is in good hands of one of Pete's best friends. Here is a message from the man himself (courtesy of www.chairpage.com:
The best job you can have is one where you'd pay someone to let you do it, even though that's something you don't want to let on to your boss.

That's the way I felt when I first started working on the radio, and it's how I've felt working for the past three-plus years in this little corner of the Gillies Cybersystem (that's the actual official name of the Internet, you know).

But another thing about jobs is that you really shouldn't do them when you can't keep giving them all the attention they deserve.

And that's the way it is for me right now, as I tell you that this is the last thing I expect to be writing for chairpage.

That is not an easy thing to say, because my time in service to you and to Chris, Ben and Daniel since November of 1996 has been something really special and I'm honored to have had the chance to do it. And I'm still pretty much in awe of the fact that it actually happened in the first place!

There are so many things coming into my mind right now, all of them good, and I need to finish writing this before I get too sloppily sentimental. As every good fan knows, sloppy sentiment is not consistent with "chair mode," which I am still in, at least until I finish this little bit of typing.

So, yeah, it's all good, it really is. The guys have made a commitment to maintain the fan-driven, fan-oriented nature of chairpage, and that's very important to me, since it's how I got into this in the first place. One of my best friends in the world, Duane Dowse, is taking over chairpage duties for the time being. Duane's the first person I ever discussed silverchair with, and both of our lives have hardly been the same since.

I trust that all the people who've truly helped me with the site will want to do the same for Duane as well. I especially want to thank Matt, Zack, Marc, Neil and Sarah for being true friends and doing such excellent work.

This cool little city where I live is about to have some really big things happen to it, including the rebirth of the famous place where I first saw silverchair play. I'm happy to say that I've been asked to be closely involved with the work needed for the redevelopment of Asbury Park, New Jersey, U.S.A.

And it's precisely because I want to do the very best I can do for the new people I work for in the place where I live that I am giving up my chairpage duties. Knowing that the site is in Duane's hands now makes it a lot easier to leave than it might otherwise be. Plus, I'm going to get to go back on the radio, which should be lots of fun, and the station I'll be working for will be broadcasting on the Internet as well -- as long as Ben lets them, that is! And remember that Duane will always know where to find me.

OK, this really is "The Closing." Thanks to John and John for letting me do this, thanks to Anthony for being a legend, thanks to my big Aussie family, thanks to you for reading, contributing and enjoying, and thanks most of all to Ben, Chris and Daniel, top blokes all, and they rock as well!

So, let the door swing...

one last time...

Pete from chairpage

silverchair and Blink 182 continued...
Now most of the venues where silverchair and Blink 182 will be playing are close to or sold out. Get your tickets fast. I doubt that you'll get the good seats but it'll be worth it.

silverchair on MuchMusic
Before they play at Toronto's Maple Leafs Garden on November 10, silverchair will be on MuchMusic at 2:45 p.m. Eastern time. If you don't have the station, get your Canadian buddies to tape it for you.

Miss You Love
The video and song Miss You Love have been added to some North American stations. The video is on MTV's TRL and added to MuchMusic's Rotation. If you don't have these stations, go to the No Association Page to download the full version of it. It's one of the most serious and best videos that silverchair has ever made (after Ana's Song). It takes about 20 mins to download depending on your system. Requst it on you local radio stations and make it #1!

The ARIA's
Sorry for the delay again. I know that most will already know but silverchair won 2 awards at the recent ARIA's. Unfortunately none of the most important ones. They won Engineer of the Year for Nick Launay and Channel [V]'s artist of the Year, voted by the people.

Happy Birthday...
Chris Joannou will turn 20 on November 10, 1999 (the day where they will play in Toronto). To all those that will be there don't forget to wish him a Happy Birthday!

Sorry, I forgot to wish Ben a happy birthday on October 24th. My apologies to him.... :o) I hope he had a good one.

silverchair goes GOLD!
Recently, silverchair went to gold status in America for Neon Ballroom (500 000 units sold) following their gold Freak Show and platinum status Frogstomp. It is noted that Neon Ballroom is selling about 10 000 to 15 000 copies every week and is currently rising from it's postion in Billboard near the 130's in the top 200 album. Now Neon Ballroom is on position 89 and hopefully rising mainly thanks to Ana's Song (Open Fire) which is doing extremely well.

In the United States:
- 10 million units = diamond
- 1 million units = platinum
- 500, 000 units = gold

In Canada/Australia:
- 1 million units = diamond
- 100, 000 units = platinum
- 50, 000 units = gold

Note: The status depends on where you live. Since Canada and Australia has a less population the units is lower than in America where the population is about 200 million when compared to Canada it is about 28 million.

silverchair television specials in Australia!
silverchair is guest hosting Rage (I'm assuming an Australian t.v. show) on September 4, 1999.

Australia's Channel V will be broadcasting a silverchair weekend special. Including will be:

- exclusive footage
- the entire show from Melbourne Park

Also, silverchair's recent show in Melbourne Park (Melbourne, Australia) will be broadcast live (audio/video) over the internet. on September 4, 1999 by Channel V. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sydney time and at the crack-of-not-even-dawn of 5:30 a.m. eastern time for us North Americans who have nothing to do in the mornings.

Aussie tour over!
silverchair's Australian tour is over after playing about 2 weeks in their home country. They were greeted by many excited fans in their sold out tour of the nation. Local bands such as "Army of Prawns" (Daniel's younger brother Heath's band) opened up to get recognized. silverchair's tour began in Newcastle on July 31 and ended August 15 at Brisbane. They will tour Europe again for some festivals and open up for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers as they did in 1995.

silverchair Limited Tour Edition CD
Since the main leg of silverchair tour is over, the kind people of Epic and Murmur is releasing a very limited tour edition of silverchair's Neon Ballroom. Okay, this will only be released in Australia and maybe if you're lucky you can get it outside. If you live anywhere else, get your Aussie buddies to get it for you. If you trade think carefully, you'll be out like $50 plus "shipping and handling" charges.

August 4, 1999
silverchair goes Platinum in Canada!
When silverchair played EdgeFest in Vancouver, B.C., they were awarded with a certified platinum disc (100 000 units sold in Canada).

3rd single "Miss You Love" single due out mid August
silverchair's mellow single, Miss You love is already on the airwaves since August 1. The video should be out in late August or early September. It is directed by Cate Anderson, the person who did such an incredible job on Ana's Song (Open Fire). Rumour has it that silverchair will not be playing in the video. The single will be out September 10, and will include the single and 2 Black Flag covers.

Charges against Daniel Johns dropped...
PRESS RELEASE -- July 26, 1999
silverchair Frontman Cleared of Harassment Charges

A woman calling herself "Emily Spencer" had initiated court proceedings in which she claimed Johns had threatened and harassed her.

Subsequent media reports revealed that the woman's real name was actually Jodie Ann Marie Barnes.

Today Ms Barnes unequivocally withdrew her allegations in Newcastle Local Court. Her legal representative, Mr Ron Vercoe, said that the allegations were "totally untrue" and "unsubstantiated." On behalf of Ms Barnes, Mr Vercoe apologised to the Court and to Mr. Johns for the "trauma" which this case had caused him and his family.

Mr Vercoe said that it was "… the strangest case he had seen in four decades…" and added that he could not understand how the matter had been allowed to progress this far. He said that this area of the law could benefit from reforms to prevent people from bringing such "fallacious and petty claims" against innocent parties.

As Ms Barnes' claims were completely untrue, the withdrawal was not opposed.

A spokesman for Daniel Johns pointed out that these groundless charges had received widespread media coverage including a front page story in Johns' home town newspaper. "I hope that the media covers the truth of this matter as prominently as they covered the lies," he said.

Daniel Johns said: "These completely false charges and the sensationalised media coverage which they have received in some places have been very upsetting for myself and my family. I'm glad the truth has finally come out."

silverchair at the House of Blues
On Wednesday, July 21 about 10:30 p.m. (eastern time I'm assuming) the House of Blues will rebroadcast silverchair's show at www.hob.com.

More info on the Daniel Johns stalker
silverchair's Daniel Johns has been accused of harassment by an Australian woman who apparently leads a double life.

According to the Australian Associated Press, a woman named Emily Spencer applied for an apprehended violence order in a Newcastle, Australia, courtroom on June 28, saying that Johns had threatened to kill her with a gun he purchased in the U.S.

The 20-year old Johns, who is currently touring Canada, was not in court to answer the charges, but he signed a sworn statement saying that he had never made any threats, indirectly or directly, to her, and that he didn't know the woman.

Two days after the story first broke, things took an even more bizarre turn when "The Newcastle Herald" reported that the woman who originally filed the complaint was not a law student named Emily Spencer, but a roadworks traffic controller named Jodie Anne-Maree Barnes.

In the original complaint, "Spencer" claimed that the Silverchair frontman had been a friend of her musician boyfriend for several years, and that Johns had become obsessed with her.

Reached on the road in Canada, the band's manager told MTV News that "the allegations are groundless, and I'm sure that this will prove to be just another bizarre, false accusation by an obsessed fan."

The case has been adjourned until July 26, and Johns is expected to return to Australia on July 20.

silverchair singer denies harassing woman
AAP -- The frontman for rock band silverchair, Daniel Johns, has denied allegations he harassed and threatened a Newcastle woman.

An application for an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Johns was lodged in Newcastle Local Court today.

A court spokeswoman confirmed a complaint had been lodged against the 20-year-old singer/guitarist, but no order was made and it was adjourned until July 26.

Johns' management said a 19-year-old woman had alleged Johns "harassed and threatened her via unnamed friends at unspecified times over an unspecified period".

He did not appear in court today as he is currently on tour in the United States.

His manager John Watson said Johns prepared a sworn statement saying he did not know the person making the allegations and had never threatened or harassed her directly or indirectly.

Watson said it was common for prominent people to be the subject of "bizarre claims" and was confident the allegations would be proved groundless if and when they went to court.

"I do not know what motivated this particular person to make these outlandish claims but Daniel has made it crystal clear that he has never made any threats towards her," he said.

"Daniel didn't even know she existed until he received a subpoena from her last week.

"If this person wanted to get some attention, then I guess she has succeeded."
