What is a bootleg? A bootleg is basically an unofficial live recording or rare material of any given band or musical artist. The popularity of any band usually dictates the amount of bootlegs that exist for that act. Needless to say, there are many many Blur bootlegs around, some great some not so great, but they all capture a piece of time, a piece of Blur history if you will, that would be lost forever had it not been recorded and traded and bought so enthusiastically amongst Blur fans. Generally, the music industry frowns upon the sale and distribution of bootlegged recordings, their stance is that the sale of such recordings takes money away from the record labels and the artists themselves (in that the royalties from said recordings go directly to the bootleggers). I for one support this view, in my opinion live recordings should be traded and not bought, sought only after you have purchased every commercially released item in that particular artists catalogue. If you are looking for an A+ quality Blur live show you really can't go wrong with the officially released 'Live at the Budokan' CD. Certainly no bootleg can hope to compare, quality-wise, with this recording. |
