DAMON SHORTLISTED FOR MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE 24|07|01 Blur frontman Damon Albarn has been shortlisted for one of music's most prized awards for the third time. His new band Gorillaz is among the nominees for the Mercury Music Prize. The group's self-titled album joins other indie favourites like Radiohead and Super Furry Animals. PJ Harvey is another third time nominee for her most recent album Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea. Radiohead had two eligible albums, Kid A and Amnesiac, but judges opted for the latter of the twin experimental releases. Travis, Robbie Williams, Craig David and U2 are among those who have been overlooked. Travis had entered their album The Invisible Band before it was even released. Eight of the albums are for debut releases and have a slight emphasis on singer/songwriters, with Harvey, Tom McRae and Ed Harcourt in the running. Previous Mercury shortlists have tended to include a number of token entries from the classical, jazz and folk fields, but this year's entrants tend to blur the lines. Albarn has previously been nominated for his Blur albums Parklife and 13. Last year's winner was Badly Drawn Boy's The Hour Of Bewilderbeast.
