You hear them on the radio practically every time you listen and their songs have the power to stick in your head. With top ten hits likePush, Real World, 3 am and the most recently released Back To Good, Matchbox 20 has certainly made a lasting first impression with their debut album Yourself or Someone Like You , selling over seven-million copies worldwide. However, the obvious popularity of the five-man-band is not only proven by record sales. Kyle Cook , Paul Doucette , Rob Thomas , Adam Gaynor , and Brian Yale are finally taking a well-deserved break after two years of constant touring in the US, Australia, and Europe. Afterwards, they will begin work on their second CD to the delight of their many impatient fans. The lyrics and music they create are not only nice to listen to, but also show strong emotion and have deep meaning.
"When these tunes first run past your ears, they sound upbeat and poppy, but they definitely have a serious side," says Rob Thomas , lead singer of the band who wrote all of the lyrics on the first record. This probably won't be true for their next album though. The lead guitarist Kyle Cook also plans to write a few songs himself, and possibly Adam Gaynor, the rhythm guitarist as well. Whomever writes the songs, you can be certain that they will be accepted and loved by countless people of varying ages and lifestyles. While some fans merely listen to Matchbox 20's music, others can relate to the situations described in the songs. If you have ever attended a live concert, it is not hard to see that the band truly loves what they do by watching the way they get into their performance. The powerful lyrics combine and flow easily with guitar cords courtesy of Kyle and Adam as well as Brian Yale's amazingly fast fingers adding the bass and Paul Doucette's incredible drumming skills. This is all brought together by Rob's captivating vocals and Kyle and Adam backing him up. Once you listen to the entire Yourself or Someone Like You album, it is near impossible to choose one favorite song. Each is unique, but they all have one thing in common; the ever-present feeling Matchbox 20 puts into their music. This is probably the reason why they are loved and appreciated by so many. There are few bands around today that dedicate themselves to what they do as successfully as Matchbox 20 does. The fact they are so adorable doesn't hurt their stardom either. Whatever the reason, it is undeniable that the guys of Matchbox 20 , whom we all love so very much, are not just one-hit-wonders and their careers are definitely far from over.
