6/12 B.O.C. Concert Review
Well, I along with many other BOC fans was anxiously awaiting the Summer
Daze Tour, which consisted of Steppenwolf, Foghat, Pat Travers, and of
course, the one and only, Blue Oyster Cult. And also I was disappointed
to learn that BOC would not be the main act. Their setlist, time on
stage and order of appearence seems to have varied from city to city.
In Columbia, Maryland, They we're the third act (after Pat Travers and
Foghat but before Steppenwolf.) BOC should've definatly been the
headliner since a majority of the fans were there to see them.
Many of the concerns over Eric's voice can be laid to rest. He sang
lead on every single song except "Buck's Boogie" (for obvious reasons)
and "Burnin' For You". How did his voice sound? Good question. I must
say that the technical crew did a horrible job. Their lyrics were
rather low. I think BOC needs to hire a new tech crew. I just recently
saw Pat Benetar and Styx in concert and was quite impressed with their
sound quality, the music, and vocals were at the perfect level. Neither
one overpowered the other. So why can't BOC do this? This is not a one
time thing. This has been a constant problem for BOC over the past
couple years.
Technical problems aside, they had a pretty good performance. Their
setlist consisted of:
Stairway To The Stars
E.T.I.
Buck's Boogie
O.D.'d On LIfe Itself
Cities On Flame
Burnin' For You
Godzilla
Don't Fear The Reaper
I was a bit disappointed that they did not perfeorm any songs off their
upcoming album (if it ever comes out.)
Buck, as always, was superb. Eric did a decent job considering the
technical limitations. Allen pretty much remained in the background.
Danny Miranda and their new drummer (whose name I forget) did a great
job. They really showed their abilities during thier solos in
Godzilla.
All in all, not a bad performance for BOC, but I much rather seem them
at Jaxx where they always headline.
