Avail/Boy Sets Fire/By All Means Show Review
May 22nd, 1999 @ Coney Island High
I recently had the pleasure of seeing AVAIL live. The show started at 7, and only 3 bands were booked, so it ended relatively early (10:30). The first band up was By All Means. These guys were fucking crazy. They are a hardcore band from Italy and the singer sounds like the guy from Rammstein. They are the hardest hardcore/metal band I have ever heard in my life, but their set was only about a half hour. The next band up was Boy Sets Fire. It was my first time ever hearing them and I was pretty impressed. Don't get me wrong here, I don't like emo, but when it's hardcore emo, I don't mind as much. These guys were really good and the singer got personal with the crowd and spoke to them and made jokes, and looked like an all-around nice guy. They even covered Holiday In Cambodia by The Dead Kennedys. Finally, AVAIL came up on stage. These guys were great, and I video-taped them. They started off with some song that I didn't know, and the 2nd song was the one that starts out like "What dfference does it really make, when your head's at the foot of the bed," it's on Over The James. Their set was amzing and they played for about 50 minutes. The singer got into the music a lot, and the chearleader, Beau Beau, was very funny. The ended their set with Scuffle Town, my personal favorite. These guys were great, and I recomend seeing them, but if you can't, you can buy the video off me, the quality is very good!
