In summer 1996, Gary Taylor (president of the Freddie Mercury Friendship Group) had a list of questions for Neil Murray to answer. Neil wrote his answers on a paper where the questions were already printed on. The result was printed in the fanzine of the F.M.F.G. (address at the end of this page).

Full name:
Philip Neil Murray

What bands and projects are you working on at the moment?
Peter Green (ex-Fleedwood Mac), Brian May - bits of recording , waiting to write a record with Black Sabbath

Are you going to work with The Brian May Band again?
I hope so - Brian wants to keep the same line-up when he tours in 1997 (maybe with different backing singers)- I hope it doesn't clash with other projects.

What are the best bands you have been involved with?
Whitesnake 1978-82 -went from small clubs to big arenas, and had some very funny times. BRIAN MAY BAND - the most civilized and classy situation I've worked in.

What is your favourite Brian May Band song?
Love Token/Headlong

What is your best gig with the Brian May Band?
Both gigs we did in Madrid - great audiences

And the worst?
Santiago, Chile - lots of technical problems with Brian's equipment

Do you like Queen music?
Of course

Any favourites?
Killer Queen, Radio Ga Ga, These Are The Days Of Our Lives

Did you ever meet Freddie?
Sadly, no

What did you think of him?
Very talented, flamboyant, strong-willed. He was a great singer and frontman - irreplaceable

What is Brian like to work with?
He likes everything to be as good as it can be, which is how I like it, though perhaps our taste in music isn't identical. He has his emotional ups and downs, and sometimes doubts himself unnecessarily. Very nice person.

Do you enjoy playing as part of the S.A.S. Band?
Most of the time, though the Bottom Line is not very enjoyable for me as a bass-player because of the sound on stage. Getting a bit bored with the same old songs.

Who are your favourite groups and musicians?
Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Toto, Eric Clapton - I like bits of every style of music, and I get bored with anything if I hear it too often.

Is there anything you would especially like to do, or work with?
Get back to being slim! I'd like to work with Cindy Crawford, but unfortunately she doesn't have a band!

Thanks Neil, for answering our questions.
No, thank you!
