Deathcore (GER)- Spontaneous Underground CD

(Nuclear Blast Records 1990)

Blasting, grinding and total hardcore carnage... only the Germans could do it with a straight face.  Before Nuclear Blast blew candyfloss up with their "project megalomania", the label had always turned out to be the most sensible platform for every aspiring speedcore deathgrindsters to launch their long range missiles, notwithstanding the scene's diluted interest in hardcore thrash/death metal at the turn of the '90s (Swedish was kicking ass back then). And hey, they managed to release Deathcore much to the anticipations of many feverish deathsters, allthough that didn't clear their names for the shoddy treatment of Messiah's first two LPs onto CD as well as bringing metal to a whole gay dimension in the '90s. Deathcore had been around since '86 and even prior to the full length had received highly acclaimed reviews from many underground presses at that time. The name "Deathcore" couldn't be more appropriately named, as it is about as much as it gets. They do every styles imaginable for this subgenre, ranging from the monstrous grindings of Blood and Death In Action to the crust of Extreme Noise Terror. Of course Napalm Death IS the reference point for almost everything else. The musicians had also slacked on the gore elements from their demo days, so no such splatter shits like "Perverse Vomit" if anybody can remember it, but rather they had some socially conscious number. But from "Evil Death Slaughter" (the midtempo rhythm is still engaging after all these years) to the maniacal grindblast affair of "Human Error" after getting stiff from Napalm Death, they really stood out like a proud sore thumb in my musical favour. This was a classic for their time, and another forgotten chapter in heavy metal in a year like '03.
