Anne's Story:

After an argument with my husband, I decided to take a drive into Cleveland, about 20 miles away, to sort out my thoughts. It was the day after the Stones' show, and rumor had it, they were filming their (then) latest video somewhere in the city.

Deciding to try my luck, I headed down to East 55th and Euclid, as if guided by angels. Suddenly, I saw yellow police tape and barrels that sectioned off a piece of the road by an abandoned building. Parking, I rushed over to check out the commotion and inquire of a group of people standing outside the barrels and tape. "It's the Stones video -- there's Mick in the second story of the building, singing out the window!"

Sure enough, it WAS Mick Jagger. I stuck around for a few hours, meeting various people as they came and went from the impromptu "set" for "Out of Tears." We chatted with the off duty police, acting as security guards, and a few EMT's, also there for protection. As the night wore on, rumor had it that Keith would be coming to film his scenes --- at 4 a.m.! It was midnight, and I decided to use a pay phone I'd spotted nearby to contact my house and explain the delay.

Stepping into the booth, I picked up the receiver. It was dead. I noticed it looked like a new booth. Oh, well, guess the call can wait, I thought. I asked another onlooker what was wrong with the phone. "That's not a real phone! There aren't real pay phones in this part of town! If there were, everyone would be lined up trying to make drug connections!" he stated, laughing.

I never did get to meet Keith. It just got too late to be hanging around such a crappy neighborhood. The night before, from the seventh row of the Stadium, he flashed me and my friends a "thumbs up" in response to a big "We Love Keith" sign that I'd made. Guess I'd have to make do with that and hope for another chance, someday.

Going home, I was sad that it was Mick, and not Keith, that I'd run into that fateful day. However, it was pretty cool to see Charlie Watts trying to make a phone call in the "Out of Tears" video ---from that same phone booth!!!
