I stumbled across your web site and felt I just had to share my experience.
It was the first time my husband and I had the opportunity to go to Jamaica. We went to Ocho Rios for 5 days of fun in the sun. On the first day of our trip, we befriended one of the staff members at the resort where we were staying and on the forth day of our stay, he added an extra bonus to our trip that MADE the whole vacation.
Earlier that morning we were standing out on the beach with him and he asked us the oddest question, "Do you know about the Rolling Stones?" My husband and I being long time fans of the Stones, (I'm dating myself here) said of course we did. Then he proceeded to point up toward the hills where countless houses dotted the landscape.
He told us that was where Keith Richards had a summer house. Later that afternoon when he got off work, he took us on a tour that most people never have the opportunity to go on. He took us to, yes, Keith Richards' summer home in Ocho Rios! If that was not enough just seeing his home, we got to go INSIDE! Keith might not have been there, but we felt he was there in spirit. I know from my experience that it's got to be a place where he loves to go to. It's peaceful and relaxing, like a little slice of heaven.
It was great to be able to walk around the house and relax with our guide and the house caretaker, swim in his pool, and look through his telescope down at the beach. The only thing that was missing was Keith himself. My husband and I would have been skeptical about this house actually belonging to Keith Richards but we had recently seen a VH1 special featuring Keith and some of his Jamaican friends/musicians at this very spot. The man is truly a legend, and although we've never met him face to face, to be able to hold one of his acoustic guitars in my hands and strum a few bars of 'Wild Horses' was quite an experience to say the least.
We were instructed by our guide NOT to take anything from his home and we had the ULTIMATE RESPECT (Mon) and would never think of doing such a thing! Although I must admit, I did run across a piece of paper at his fax machine where he had written a little ditty and that was VERY tempting to say the least! I had to fight from getting Sticky Fingers! So that's as close as we've come to actually brushing shoulders with Keith Richards. Guess that will just have to do for now.
PS to Keith- We graciously offer you an open invitation to come visit us at our house!
