Charlie Szasz upsets the status quo in Hub City both as a Reporter Vic Sage and as faceless vigilante known as The Question. Vic digs up dirt on the city's corrupt government as The Question and exposes on the evening news. When he gets too close to the truth about Hub City's alcoholic Mayor Fermin the true power behind the mayor, Rev. Hatch sends Lady Shiva and his hired thugs to teach Vic Sage a lesson. Instead of Sage, The Question shows up. Lady Shiva beats him unconscious. Hatch's thugs bust up his body and throw him into the river to finish him off.
