Vic Sage's friend, Aristotle Rodier, is kidnapped right from under the reporter's nose. When Vic tries to stop the assailants he is knocked out by some kind of gas. After coming to he searches for Tot but can find no sign of him. He realizes how that he knows nothing about his friend's personal life. He remembers a plumbing van out of place. While investigating it he meets a woman who believes it is part of an alien conspiracy. She is able to provide Vic with a license number. As a favor for saving his life Det. O'Toole looks the number up for him. It is registered to a man who is part of a government agency that was supposedly shutdown years ago. The agency specialized in developing and testing LSD for use as a truth serum. At the registered address the Question meets the owners of the vehicle as they hastily vacate the premises. As he fights the kidnappers he suffers from a hallucination that incapacitates him.
