Hub City |
Hub City was founded in the year 1818 by one of the pirate Jean LaFitte's officers, Gaston Humpert, while standing on a clumb of mud and saying, "I shall build a mighty city here, the hub of a mighty empire!" Shortly afterwards, he was kabobbed by mutinous troops who blamed his death on indians. Things pretty much went downhill from there.
The first mayorial race was held in Hub City in 1886, the winner of the race being Harold Sternglow. However, after being fatally shot in the head, the mayor title reverted to the candidate with the second most amount of votes -- Rance Dinsmore, Sternglow's murderer.
Somehow, Hub City has managed to struggle on, with currupt government after corrupt government, killing after killing, and indifference after indifference by Hub City's citizens. This brings us up to modern times where Hub City is a rat-infested crimehole. However, there is hope for the future. After the most recent corrupt government, headed by drunken Mayor Wesley Fermin and his puppetmaster Reverend Jeremiah Hatch, Fermin's former wife Myra Conelly has taken over the mayorship, and her constant efforts to cleanse Hub City of crime and perfidiousness have influenced Hub City citizens to take a hand in their own futures.
Like other cities before it, like Gotham and Star City, Hub has been called home by a few heroes, most notably The Question and Blue Beetle. While the Beetle has moved on to higher places with his role in the JLI and Blue and Gold Enterprises. The Question still resides, apparently, in Hub City.
A few interesting sites to see in Hub City include the art museum, which features the ever popular "Unconquered" exhibit, and the City Park, which features the Gaston Humpert statue. News in Hub City is covered by KBEL-TV, with tell-it-like-it-is anchorman Vic Sage. Good places to eat include Cowan's, The Maison, or the Spot Bar & Grill. Visitors to the city should book flights through Palomar Air.
Further questions should be directed to the Hub City Tourist's Information Bureau.
(Note: Hub City, when written by O'Neil was based on a real city. The name and location of that city, however, have apparently been sworn to secrecy.)
